<div class="IPBDescription">the ****?</div> Okay, so I bought Battlefield 1942 the day it hit the shelves.
Since it was bugged to death (even with patch 1.1, wich was released the same day), I didn't play the game for a good month and a half...

Then they released patch 1.2, wich I installed, played, and put aside for another month.

Finally, with patch 1.3, the game is now in a playable form. There are still dozens of bugs (you can't even switch weapons properly) but the game is farely playable.

Now, I've been tweaking my system lately (I always feel as if I'm not getting my money's worth, wich I never get anyway) to get the best performence I can.

I play the game in 1600x1200 @ 32bit, with ALL video settings set to their highest. As for the sound, I put 44KHz and hardware acceleration ON (wich gives me 31 channels). So, I basically have ALL highest settings.
To test these settings, I created a single player game, with 63 bots, with defaults setting and 20% going to their AI.

I get anywhere from 30 to 100 fps. My average must be around 60. I'm thinking, that's a decent FPS.

Weird thing is, when I play online, I get poorer framerates then when I play offline. Shouldn't I be getting better FPS online since my computer doesn't have to use ressources to control the bots?

Does anyone have tricks to boost FPS and lower my latency online?

Thanks all.

P.S. EA suck for releasing such an unfinished product. Even now, the game feels unprofessional. The latency sucks **** too. If you can get a ping below 150 you're lucky. Even lower ping lag alot. What I mean is that if you get a ping of 50, you get about the same latency as if you had 150 in NS or DoD. If you have 100 of ping, it's the same feeling and inconvenience has 200-300 for Ns or DoD...

It is likely that you are using more CPU trying to work out the positions of other players rather than what the AI is doing. I don't play Battlefield 1942 but there are many things you can do to lower your latency. The most common one is to shut down all those programs that use the internet. (IRC, ICQ, Trillan, AIM, KaZzA etc) Thats the best one.

But apart from that I can't help you...

It depends on your video card/cpu power

The higher the cpu power, the more bots you can handle

The better the video card, the more players, bots, and basically anything else graphical you can handle

I have a 1ghz computer and a GeForce4. My computer handles internet play fine but lags really bad when I try to play with bots.

Of course, thats just a quick summary...

I won't bore you with the long, detailed system specs, but here's the gist:

    AMD AthlonXP 2000+
    512MB DDR 333Mhz (2700)
    Asus GeForce4 ti4200
Soundblaster Live 5.1 sound card Dolby digital
    WinXP pro
    Cable modem

Yeah, EA sucks. But the game ran fairly well for me.

It didn't work for **** for me. I decided since I couldn't return it I would just let it sit on my shelves for awhile til they released some patches fixing it (everyone had problems, their support forums were a joke). Come to think of it, I should probably try it now...I'll get back to you after I reinstall and patch.

    I think you can.

Hmm, don't know why you're having problems.
