Could someone write a guide please?
I'm habing trouble using jetpacks efficiently. Could someone help me with how to maximize height, and forward motion while in the air? Thanks. Any other tips appreciated.
Small burst are good. Don't floor it with the jetpack, at least while getting the hang of it. Once you do, I would worry about maxmizing life with jetpack. You have a lot of mobility, but you're not getting any extra toughness. Try not keep away from surfaces; you want to be off the floor, enough so that skulks can't eat you, but also below the cieling and off the walls so that fades can't acid rocket you. Once you get some good air control, start crouching when you lift off; if you can not only keep away from surfaces, but crouch too, you make pretty small target.
on a few servers, the jp settings make it impossable to hover. it feels like 1000 gravity. you can hold the button down all day and you'll only get upward momentum from jumping off the ground.
When i just started NS a month or so ago, i made a server and set the user slots to 2. Just researched JP, and ran around the map practicing. It sounds boring, but if you realy need tips for JP , the best i can tell you is practice.
The amount of thrust you get from from each burst is dependant on your fps, a high fps allows you to rise faster.
You can change your direction of motion in the air as if you were jumping or falling. For a simplified guide to air control, try this:
Jetpack along, facing the direction you are travelling. Do not hold +forward. Hold down a strafe key in the direction you wish to turn. Turn the mouse smoothly (Not too quickly) in the direction you wish to turn.
As you turn your mouse, your direction of motion turns with it, so you travel where you look. To turn the other way, hold down the opposite strafe key and do the same. This allows you to build up a great deal of speed and then redirect it, to turn corners and navigate the map at full throttle.
The faster you are moving, the greater your turning circle, so you will have to move the mouse slowly in order to avoid dropping speed. If crouching, your air control is also reduced.
If in a vent, or area with a flat cieling, you can hold down the jump key while moving forwards to build up extra speed. In most coridoors, you have to tap jump to keep yourself away from the cieling, and at a level height.
practicing on your own server helps to an extent, but jetpacking on an actual 16-18 player server is harder. JP fuel regen is based on your fps right now, so hovering around and doing all sorts of other stuff becomes hard with a fps under 30 on an actual server. Starting my own 1 player lan game I can get 70 fps... man is jetpacking easy then.
In an actual game, best method is to not hold down the jump key, and keep in mind that you can move very fast. In addition, take lag into account for online servers. Most skulks can't get you when you're hovering, so they'll be easy once you get the hang of hovering.
Lerks and fades require you to constantly move around. I find that circle-strafing with the jetpack is good, and helps me hover better and maintain more combat awareness than flying straight forward. Some players don't realize that you can strafe around.
I'll edit my post if i can think of any more to say.
I can stay airborne for minutes by not wasting energy through bursting and not reaching the ceiling, try to stay in the air as much as possible. Good practice is to try to maneuver around through flying only. Avoid touching walls/ceiling/floor as much as possible.
