I hope you like crates
If I hear 1 complaint about the crates... I'll probably do nothing. But if I hear 30 complaints...
Ok, its a storage room, supply depot, or whatever. There's the big airlock foor for incoming and outgoing cargo ships. Theres the glass enclosed walkway above. There's crates. And there's large globs of alien goo. If you remember the layout, this is the hive in the lower left.
And for those of you who expect a .bsp (you know who you are), I might bother SHODAN for a full compile tomorrow or Friday, depending on how much more inspiration I have left.
This shot here is from down below.

Besides, I think that those large globs are quite a lot.
oh and i'd suggest putting some lumps around the hive
and maybe have that puddle in some infestation, so it's like a little pool
and i have nothing against crates

Leave the crates.
Lighting is somewhat inconsistent. You've got lights on the top edges of one wall, some red ones by the lock door, and so on. Unify it a bit so there's only one set of primary lighting, and one set of secondary atmospheric lighting.
Concerning crates... no complaints from me. I've got crates in one of my hive rooms too, so it's not like I'd say anything against it anyways, heh.
Complaining about crate use is just something that was invented by a group of people who didn't know squat about level design... but wanted to look like they did. After all... rebellion is teh r0xors, right? It's overly common, so HEY! let's say it's bad, and make people think that we know what we're talking about!! Crates are teh sUx! It apparently caught on beyond this group, and crates are now considered icky.
(Ok, so shoot me. I admit, excessive crate use is ridiculous... But not nearly as ridiculous as it is to freak out at the sight of a few of em. Or to protest it, etc...)

i like the crates, don't understand why u feared we wouldn't like 'em
lightning for me need a bit more contrast(i mean shadows more consistant and lights a bit stronger but more localized)
i would put more infestation, A BIT MORE not a lot, but u need it around the hive.
For the lighting, I'll try and make it a bit more cohesive. I'm not really sold on the light stip at the top yet. I may just find a separate lighting scheme to replace it (likely just more of those lamp type things). The lights on the bottom, I'll probably reduce their intensity, as they seem a bit washed out now. The red lights on the door won't go any higher. The source they're coming from isn't angled, so I'm kind of stretching it letting them come up as high as I have.
The crates are there to stay. I wouldn't have gotten rid of them even if everyone had hated them.
The glass is already at a render amount of 25. I didn't want to lower it anymore, because I was afraid the engine might break.
The only thing that still bugs me about this room is that I've only got one particle system. I need something else, but I can't think of anything else that would fit or work, other than a second drip as Interfect0r mentioned. /me tears out his precious, precious hair.
Also, a steamy, fog-filled hive room would be pretty fun. (:
