Why I didn't like NS.
First off. I'm not a troll.
I asked in the topic of my question, what you all liked about it. I did not come in with a topic that's like "THIS GAME SUCKS!" then just say "THIS GAME SUCKS. IT'S CRAP AND I DON'T LIKE IT." - That is trolling.

Second,
When I said compared to CS, I don't mean directly comparing every aspect to CS.
They are 2 EXTREMELY different mods, but I mean in general enjoyability factor, I find CS to generally be a lot more fun. (Yes, hackers etc... attempt to ruin the game's fun factor, but if you've got the skill to overcome hackers, and a server which has admin who can ban them, then it's not so bad.)

NS I just found lacklustre in almost every department.

I can spend 2 clips firing at a skulk or gorge, barely missing, and it'll maybe just have died from the last few bullets, but all those things need are 1 or 2 bites on you, and you're dead. Granted, they need to run upto you etc... But even then, your clip empties so fast on the standard SMG, that you get no chance to run.
Your backward movement as a marine is slow, and even running forward can't outpace the aliens speed.

The marine's have absolutely nothing to do except shoot stuff, if the commander doesn't assign any duties to you, and if you get a crappy commander, that won't be very often.

Then, this one aspect I will compare to CS, is the teamplay.
Both games will require a degree of teamplay, NS more so, however in NS, if you're team doesn't work together, you've lost..
In CS, at least you can go solo, and if you're good enough, you can do something to win.

CS is also NOT just 15 second gunfights btw.
Yes, there are rushes, yes they can be annoying, but if you're good enough, you can hold off a rush, or not rush yourself.
Just because others do it, doesn't mean you have to.
You can outflank a rush, there are many different things you can do, so don't limit it to a few small quick gunfights.
Add in 1.6s Riot Shields, and new rifles, and there's a whole new strategy going on!

NS levels are a little too dark. You'd think with all the technology they have, they could at least put up some decent lighting??
OK, it adds atmosphere, but on 99% of the maps, come on, wth?
The game might benefit from an outdoorsy-ish map on a planet or something, or a well lit map.

A little weapon variety might add something too.
Being confined to certain weapons until your commander upgrades them for you is just insane. The aliens can upgrade whenever they want, so long as they have the resources, but Marines have to rely on the commander to do it for them.

Now, don't get me wrong, the game has great ideas, and awesome potential.
The Jetpacks are very fun, and the RTS elements add a twist on it too, but it's still got a lot of issues that I can't bear playing with right now. I just wonder how you all can.

Also, SkulkBait... NS is not the greatest mod that has ever been made.
I'm sure a lot of people will agree with me here.
There are numerous mods for other games aswell as HL, that are better, and ones that are better than Counter-Strike too.

Also, if it's the best mod to date, why didn't it win in FilePlanets poll? It came 2nd, and that's just for 2002! Desert Combat for BF1942 won 1st place, so how can NS be the best mod ever made?

No offence, but you must be extremely close-minded to think that.

This isn't the first time I've played NS. I've played it a couple times, hoping to get into it each time, and it just hasn't been able to do anything for me, except frustrate.

If there's a certain something that you are all doing that I should know, that makes the game enjoyable, please tell me what it is. (And no stupid responses like "Playing it!" please.)

It just sounds like you're more in favor of CS' more solo, DM-style gameplay. That's fine. If you don't like tight-knit teamwork, RTS games, a longer less frantic gameplay style, that's your perogative. Not like you need to demand your money back.

The reason everyone here exploded on you is becuase you use phrases like...

...without saying 'in my opinion'. You present it as fact. It's not fact. It's subjective. You like CS best. Someone else likes VPK. Another guy likes FLF. They are all different mods. By posting, 'I like don't like your mod' (which is an opinion we are not going to be able to change), you are trolling. It serves no purposes but to inflame our more vocal forum members and fans. There's no point to it, and you should just go play CS and stop giving me a headache dealing with all the rabid replying and flames I now have to edit. I'm not even going to respond to the sort of thought process that says 'if a gamespy poll says a mod is best, it must be so' because that's just sad.

So there's my calm cool answer. If you have more to say, please just PM me as I'm locking this.
