i've heard nothing but bad things about dx9, but that was mostly when it first came out...

I've had nothing but performance decreases with it.
I was glad when I was forced to Format, and I got 8.1 back.
To be honest, i only update if i'm forced to. There is the odd
exception (drivers etc) but i'm still on my 30.82 drivers for my
GeForce 4 and DirectX 8.1 was installed by Hitman 2.

I reckon you should wait, and maybe see if there's many
complaints/issues on the FreeLancer and/or Microsoft forums.

Theres major performace issues with DX9 and the latest Catalyst Drivers for Radeon cards, so after a short session with system restore/driver swapping/dx version swapping im back on 8.1 with the catalysts.

IMO There doesnt seem to be that much of an improvement from 8.1 to 9, but then again i'm not playing anything ultra modern...

As long as by "Any day" you mean "once, for the first time in recorded history". ATI is on a fluke I say. They products have been crap for years before 3D cards were even a dream inside 3Dfx's pants, and they'll be crap for years into the future! :P

now, /me steers the thread back on topic.

Just watch, when Nvidia goes out of business (which will be shortly, from the looks of it....big DOH to the GF FX) I will be the proud owner of an antique card. In about 50 years it may be worth its original value(when were all using nano tech and running 30tera Pentiums)!

Nah, AMD will be at Terahert first... and it will need liquid nitrogen to keep cool <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Getting off topic....

No, your all wrong, computers will be implemented into the human brain, and when you want to acess something you just have to think about it, and when you play games all you do is close your eyes and go into some cool meditative trance, and you play IN YOUR MIND!! Of course, virus's will still be around, hackers will tinker with your brain, and you might have to have your brain reformatted.....

    Getting back on topic.....

I still don't have 9, and judging by your replys, I don't want it.

It could have been my dodgy computer playing up again...but to get games generally playable again i'm running the cats with DX8.1...so I took my anger out on DX9 ^_^

It would make sense to make the next version of Direct X would be backwards compatible with previous versions....

    But microsoft isnt that smart.
