Newbie Ns Mapper

My first attempt at NS mapping
This is my sorry attempt at making an NS map. I have only done this for TFC where detail is not as important. All I have so far is a ready room. Take a look at these pics and give my your opinions. Do I have what it takes to map for NS? Im calling it ns_spacedoc.

Thats quite nice, but you may want to make it a little bit larger for up to 32 players...

its pretty good... everything is a lil too square.. a problem a lot fo map developers are falling into. i think theya re looking for more claustrophobic enviornments if your going for a more space ship feel. i will let ya check out some of my stuff thats in the works, just drop em your email cos i cant get the screen shots up nor have i got my entities up and running

For a readyroom and a newbie its not half bad . . . Just browse the whole mapping forum to get ideas and get yourself adjusted to the NS Style.
[EDIT]It doesn't look like your using texture lighting...you should do.

I think it's big enough to fit 32 info_player_starts in?

Silverhawk
Yeah, I know it's a bit square-ish but it's just a ready room. Do I really need to worry about high detail there?

Xenocide
Sorry, I don't use msn and im still not 100% sure what im getting myself into here so I would not be able to offer you much help anyway.

Thanks. I have been looking over the forums here for some time trying to get some ideas of my own and this is what I started out with. Took me about 3 hours to make. BTW, about 90% of that room is lit by texture lighting but maybe I am missunderstanding what you said.

Good start. I suggest that you don't use those long strips of texture lights, they tend to flood the place with light killing all shadows (bad for lighting contrast). Small seperated light fittings cause patches of light and darkness. Then again since this is a readyroom not a hive the light may be fine. Can we have some infestation around the alien entrance please.

I'd say you do, especially if you have made an entire map before. Just stick with it, and you could make a great map.

Thanks. Those are some good tips an I will keep that in mind. You want infestation? Yeah, I can do that.

Thanks. I have completed a few maps. One that I am proud to say I made (for TFC mind you) is sa-empjump.

I think the grate on the top of the Ready Room is a nice touch.
I gotta congratulate you for finishing an NS map, as alot
of people give up half-way (myself included).

On a personal note, I hate you for having 99.9 fps

Ahh, thanks but this is no where near finished. In fact, I just started. Note, it's just the readyroom. I have only done "TFC" maps before this. And don't hate me for my 99.9 fps. You would have frame rates like this too if you had a slightly older system like mine.

ATI Radeon 9000 pro 128mb ddr

try adding a env_gamma with a gamma of 1.5. Add some spotlights and go tweaking

Those textures on the doors in the first and the second picture are way too much stretched.

Wow, nice job!! I agree that some of the architecture looks a bit too square, but still a great job.
