Siege Cannons

shooting through walls
You all have surely seen games where marines take control of an area near a hive and place a siege cannon to destroy it. Most times, this involves shooting through walls, ceilings, etc. Most times aliens will cry about this, including myself. I dont see how it can be fair to shoot through a wall to destroy a hive, especially when that wall is a large barrier that requires aliens to go far distances to get to the siege.
My question: is this a bug, or was it conciously programmed into the game, taking into consideration it would be used as a marine advantage. Im sure this query has come up a few times before, but I would really like to know if this will be changed in v 1.1 or not. Ive gotten tired of all the times marines would win because they would siege The Great Viaduct from Redroom or siege Fusion from cargo. It's just not logical! Bullets dont go through walls, neither should sieges.

*hint: siege cannons do not shoot physical projectiles*
oh well this thread will be locked soon, you got your answer anyway!
Yes, Sieges shoot through walls. They also require construction of a turret factory, upgrading that factory, and building the siege turret. Once it's built, a marine must "spot" its targets, or the commander can use a scanner sweep.
All of this takes many resources and a good deal of time - the aliens, if they're observant, can keep sieges from being built. If they're fast, they can take it down after it is built but before permanent damage is done.
Easiest way to defend against sieges? Fortify the siege locations as well as the hive.
-edit- supergrendel: you'll find this community a lot more responsive - and I suspect you'll enjoy the game more - if you take the time to read up on NS before coming in here and asking questions. Newbiedom is curable... n00bitis, however, is a permanent and fatal affliction.
I'm guessing you just downloaded the game. Yes siege cannons can shoot through walls, however, they do not shoot bullets. Also, they don't shoot automatically. Either a marine has to actually be able to see the targtet on screen or the commander has to spend resources to scan the target.
One more thing. Don't let marines get that close to your hive!!!

Ok anyway thanks for the answers.
EDIT: I didnt just download the game, Ive been playing since December, so I'm relatively new. When I first started, I liked playing marines the most because they seemed to win more. Then, after about 3 weeks I started always playing on aliens, simply because they are much more flexable than marines when it comes to strategy.
"you have activated the flameshield" or something like that.... yeah.....
And if you are kharaa.. you deserve to get your butts blown out of the water if you let them get that close.
A siege cannon that doesn't shoot through walls is useless

Or lazy people who don't like manuals.

As I said before to some other poor n00b: we've got better things to do than teach you to play, unless you actually ask nicely. This question is on the same level as "where's the bomb site on ns_eclipse, I can't find it for some reason is this a bug?"
Anyhow, I truely hate manuals and my lack of playing as a "complex" marine is my reason for posting this, no one ever told me seiging through walls wasn't an exploit. In fact, once on one of the voogru servers, a commander was banned by an admin for placing a siege cannon behind a wall so it would destroy a hive.
Its things like this that create ambiguity, and increase the growing learning curve on games like Natural Selection.
In other news, NS is still 2nd place as Best New Mod, I cant believe its losing to a BF mod.

1: actually, "n00b" is a term deeply ingrained in the NS community. It's not just me being 4 "elite" h4x0r.
2: I'll put you out of your misery: siege turrets were designed from the first public release to be able to attack buildings through walls. That's what they're for. That's what they DO. It used to be that they could do so autonomously, this was altered in 1.04 so that the alien structures have to be visible to the commander before the STs will lock on.
I find it very hard to believe that a commander would be banned for this. Either the admin was a fool, or that server has some very specific rules about sieges which are atypical of NS games in general.
OK, fine. If you play on a LAN with your friends, maybe.
But if you ever waste SOMEONE ELSES time online by asking things you can find out for yourself in 5 minutes...
Or if you ever go gorge and have no idea what to do...and ruin the round for your team...
Or do a thousand other dumb things just because you´re too lazy to read the manual....
Then, Sir, I dub thee Sir Llaama-Lot of Newbcastle.
You have no right to depend on other players to educate you on basic NS knowledge.
