Hivesight/waypoint Question

<div class="IPBDescription">about turning them off..</div> I find alot of times I'll be waiting for that alien or marine to come around the corner so I can attack, but a waypoint, or hivesight will be in the way blocking view or distracting me.. is there any way to make it so I can push a button to clear the screen of this and turn it back on whenever I feel the need?

Nope. Not that isn't considered an exploit, and will be removed in v1.1, anyway.
Besideswhich... waypointing a 'difficult' player (read: rambo, griefer, whiner-for-equipment) to guard themself is one of the Comm's only tools of retribution for those who don't get to their given waypoint. Being able to turn off waypoints entirely would remove that, and I prefer to allow the Comm to be able to rebuke Rambos that they haven't specifically sent somewhere.

What I'd like to see is a 'mute all' button (outside of disabling voicecomm) for when you have someone in the area and are listening for them.. and some idiot is spamming voicecomm. Singing, playing a stupid WAV on infinite loop, or just blowing into the mike to p*ss off his team.. they can all get you killed when the sound of feet on grating is all you have to determine when they'll be coming around that corner.

aw, i was hoping this thread would be about the problem where hivesight does not draw very distant objects., the name still shows, but it is hard to find red and yellow circles on the other end of the map.

Actually, I've found that if you postion yourself right in Cargo hive, you can sit in that vent & due to the hivesight for the hive, you can't be seen by the aliens.

Quite annoying for them, and I know it isn't fair. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> I've stopped doing it now.

Actually check this <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=25113' target='_blank'>thread</a>. It has lots of stuff related to making hive-sight more handy. That includes turning it on/off etc. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Rion, I would check this forum, becuz ur answer is somewhere in here, its something with drawviewmodel 0 or something, I never use it so I dont know exactly.

I dont think its an exlpoit becuz u loose a lot of important information disabling ur hud, like parasited marines and all the other dots, atleast thats what I read.

If I were u i would just try to get used to the hvesight becuz its a very very important tool, and when marines have motiontracking u should atleast be able to parasite em.

that's a great balance, marines have to upgrade to Mo trk, but aliens have that ability from the start, and for that reason they have to "tag" marines as it were.

it's good that hive sight has a limited range, it's far enough to see a good didtance, but not all the stuff on the map..<!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->..i like it

    r_drawviewmodel 0

Create a toggle bind for it like this:

alias unnecessarilyobstructivecrapon "r_drawviewmodel 1;set unnecessarilyobstructivecrap unnecessarilyobstructivecrapoff"
alias unnecessarilyobstructivecrapoff "r_drawviewmodel 0;set unnecessarilyobstructivecrap unnecessarilyobstructivecrapon"
    alias unnecessarilyobstructivecrap "unnecessarilyobstructivecrapoff"

    bind key unnecessarilyobstructivecrap

This toggle should be bindable from the options menu

    TeoH,

i really don't think you should post that. r_drawviewmodel has been defined as an exploit by the ns team, and is rightly so.
I think binding "unnecessarilyobstructivecrapoff" is more like binidng "makethisgameeasierforme."

Universally blinding everyone who plays the game only makes things easier for people who aim so poorly it doesn't matter what they're able to see.

If i was trying to 'make things easier for myself' i wouldn't be posting the command on a public forum, and i wouldn't be asking for it to become a default option.

If you search for waypoint in the models and skins forum, you'll find a few threads with some partial solutions for marine waypoints - both Rasulis and I made shrunken waypoint sprites, and somewhere in there is a bit about minimizing the text displayed.

I think what really needs to happen is that the sprites should be made more translucent. Additionally, the code for the position of the sprites should be changed so that when the object is within the range such that the position data is already propagated to the client, the sprite should use that data for its position rather than the data from hivesight or motion tracking. If both of these changes were implemented I'd like to see the parasite and motion tracking sprites stay on the person or object when they are in view.

So grab a new locator sprite pack. WolfWings' is available for download, and looks a /lot/ sweeter in-game anyway.. though I had to do up my own replacement for the 'under attack' sprite, as I couldn't really tell it apart from the 'friendly unit' sprite at range unless there were a large number of 'em.

Oh, and TeoH. It doesn't matter if you think it's a fair tradeoff. It doesn't matter if you think the sprites and models are 'unneccessarily blinding'. Because they are there for a reason. And no matter how much you may insist otherwise, it does not stop that from being an <b>exploit</b>, which will be removed in v1.1. Not to mention across a number of servers, who already have plugins for Metamod to kill that thing's usage under v1.04.

Enjoy drawviewmodel 0 while it lasts, people; personally, I'd suggest getting used to playing with the HUD on, because in 1.1 you're not going to be able to turn it off, as Talesin said. That said, I think 1.1 may also include a 3-way "flashlight" for aliens - normal, transparent, and hivesight off. We'll see.
