LOL! It's hard to take you seriously when your philosophy is based on "The Princess Bride."

Are you knocking The Princess Bride? Boy I sure feel sorry for that flick. Most horribly titled movie ever. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Also, I'd like a filter that just blasted posts that have less that 30 words in them.

    Also also, I propose:

    Not obvious enough?

    Nope. Sorry.

Honestly, I have no patience for people who can't use the "Search" button or click a link that says "read this before posting", and I don't like seeing five variants of a single topic on one forum page, especially when the same discussion is happening in parallel (sometimes with the same people) in each variant. Yutt, this is just a rehash of your "the mods are Nazis" post from last week - you're just ticked that this board isn't a sprawling mass of chaos, as far as I can tell.

There are certainly people who take Flayra's name in vain. But from what I've seen, the vast majority of people who say "because Flayra said so" are either quoting the suggestions FAQ (which is blessed by Flayra, being a compilation of things he's already made very clear and doesn't want to keep reminding people of 5 times a day - that's why it's webbed) or a news post, which is written directly by Flayra himself. Have you considered that not everyone is BSing? Of course you haven't.

If someone in some isolated instance lies about what Flayra said, call him on his BS there. But don't complain about it being an epidemic, because it's not. Go read the FAQ. Or do a search of the forum. Compare notes with the threads that get locked or answered with "Flayra said he's not doing it, so no point debating it here." If you're half as intellectual as you're trying to make yourself out to be, typing in a couple of search terms and/or reading a single page of FAQ posting shouldn't be beyond your abilities.

Yutt, I really don't care what anyone else has to say right now because most of it is off topic. You are completly right in the fact of people using quotes from programers and the like to bash ideas, especially when they don't pertain to the subject or try to explain why this person they quote (who hasn't seen this EXACT duplicate before) thinks it's a bad idea. I've had this happen countless times to me and it put me off even caring what other people put down on the S&I Forum. The IDEA of the forum is to read carefully and debate in a POSITIVE way to HELP them. Don't be stupid and say: "I HATE IT!" or "I wonder how long this post will last" or "This SUX!" : You see, it doesn't help why you hate it or why it sucks or sometimes even look like you read the topic at all. Post something helpful like WHY you don't like it or something positive to help them make it better (hence: SUGGESTIONS), or don't post anything at all. And don't use a quote unless it pertains to the exact same thing.

And yes I am mad about this because it really is unfair to people.

Where dis you get that idea? If anything, it'd be the opposite, the Kharaa being the team with individual initiative, and the Marines with a central bureacracy deciding how things will happen.

Of course, thinking about the best way to run an economy and how to get that noob marine into a gulag may not be the first thing you think about during a battle so I'd say it's just irrelevant.

The interesting thing yutt brings up is the nature of the Bulletin Board System as it applies to NS...which is no different from any other board.

People post on topics they care about. People do not use the search function because there is a stigma about bringing back very old threads. People respond more frequently to new topics. These are just statistical facts and I understand the social backlash against them that some ppl (yutt) have mentioned.

Repeatedly telling someone this is an old topic, is a common response in all newsgroups. Unfortunately, while "it's an old topic" means that the issue is still technically open for discussion, "Flay said" is not the same thing. It is a polar opposite. SO, while I understand your position yutt...you are wrong. You do care what Flay says and you do not have anything worthwhile to add to the discussion once that determination has been made, because his decision is a final word and therefore a deterministic answer to anything you propose. A good approach to a topic you vehemently support, would be to find and ask about statements Flay waffles on or better yet, get good enough that you have him spec you demonstrating your point.

Anything you can't demonstrate in-game, goes in the suggestions/ideas, not the general forum.

While generally I'd agree with Yutt, that simply quoting some distant biblelike dogma Flayra gave out some time ago (if at all) is not really a valid way of saying that something isn't worth discussion, I have to say that this doesn't apply to "Suggestions and Ideas". That forum is just completely out of control.

Even before the forums had more than 1000 members there rarely was anything even close to being a sane suggestion in there and now with more than 10000 members it is like the core of chaos itself. Somehow it seems to me as though everyone just registers to post there, hoping there idea will make it in the game, making them famous or something. In all the time I have spent on these forums I have only seen one really good idea in there, which actually got a quick reply from Flayra saying what he thought about it.

I am sure everyone on the dev team appreciates all the thoughts you are putting into making this game better with your ideas, but sometimes it is just not fitting and I think there is nothing wrong with saying so, even if it is by quoting Flayra or any other dev or even forum mod for that reason. They know what has been discussed and they have at least a vague idea about what is going to be implemented. And forgive them, when they lock just because they are annoyed for seeing the so called double post or the already discussed topic. Most of them are human too and may have a bad day and lock just for the fun in it... I know I would sometimes, seeing the stuff that pops up here from time to time.

Oh, and for all who wondered, I think it has been stated multiple times that these forums are a dictatorship, so they will pretty much do whatever they please... only good thing is, you're free to leave!
