Getting Rushed

<div class="IPBDescription">The Numbers</div> I know a lot of times, I've said stuff like "man, eclipse is such a rush map!" But I've never really had anything to back that up. So, out of curiosity, I ran through each of the maps just now as a marine. I started touching the commander's chair, and ended touching/underneath each alien hive (except power silo, obviously). I could probably shave 5-10 seconds off a few of these routes if I tried, but I think the numbers are useful as-is.

Maps are sorted by average time to a hive. Numbers are in seconds.

Neat. Does your time to Generator on ns_caged include opening those double doors?

I subtracted time for doors that open and stay open, and included time for doors that don't stay open. So I ignored the time for the doors on caged (both to generator and shipping tunnel), while counting, for example, the revolving door on nancy.

My main interest was to see how long it would take reinforcements to get to a hive during an opening rush. To that end, I also didn't count map layout changes due to weld points. On hera, you could cut that 70-seconds to archiving in half with a couple welds.

nice, i'm gonna print these out and keep them on hand, i'm curious which routes you took, like on ns_caged, the vent hive i'm guessing you ran around generator, or did you grab a welder and go in the back way?

Were these times calculated using (abusing) the wall strafing bug? If not, you can drop all those times by 10-20% (depending on level geometry/layout) if you are good at wall strafing.

No welding on any maps. I was too lazy to build an armory. I mostly ran to my destination, hit f4, and respawned in the marine base.

I thought that had been fixed in HL ages ago. Does that still work?

well I hear that ammo slows you down some..... and you should try to factor that into your calculations....
but then again, I heard that from the IRC room, and knowing those wierdos...... ^_^
    but this does seem useful.....
maybe try doing it for HMG, HA and HMG/HA and JPs?
    for a conclusive test ^_^

Well I did a quick demo of me rushing feedwater hive on bast, even though I managed to get stuck twice on route it still only took me 28 seconds(though i use a kinetic watch so it may be slightly inaccurate). the demo can be attained <a href='http://www.btinternet.com/~trueziggy/bastdemo1.dem' target='_blank'>here</a>

(ona side note yoiu may wish to edit the name of your 3rd hive on bast it is refinery not maintainance..a bit nit picky i know but Ill delete this edit when you make the change)

Nope, it was fixed in CS, but the change was not added to the core HL code, so it still works for NS.

Eclipse HAS been a rush map...for marines of course. Big long halls and all to pop aliens who you see as you run to the hive

    Hey.

    Check this out.

Zdrone worked out the percentages for marine wins on different maps (and different team sizes) <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=23681&st=30' target='_blank'>Check it out.</a>

Our good buddy eclipse is there at the top for each. The others are mixed; bast actually looks like a pretty nasty map for marines. I wish there was some way to get a breakdown of % marine wins for each starting hive.

bast=JP/HMG galore. Marine will win everytime if the JP/HMG strat s used (and the teams have equal skill)
