<div class="IPBDescription">Personal rant</div> I'm tired of the never-ending agruements about "side x has it SOOO much easier" and "side y is only for n00bs"
I am by no means an expert at NS. I just got done playing 2 games, first as a marine and the as an alien. Same map. Marine: Commander (Kinko) was good. Had a sound strategy and stuck with it. Team was good. They listened. They didn't run around Ramboing. A couple started whining for weapons that hadn't even been developed yet, but when I said that they needed to calm down, the commander was doing as really good job, THEY DID. No screaming, no whining, no b_tching. And we kicked butt. Had the other team down and out before we even got jetpacks or heavy armor.
New game started and went Alien. Ironically ended up with about 4 guys from the previous match who had also switched sides. No one wanted Gorge so I took it. Called out my strategy and asked for opinions. Team communicated. Team attacked as one unit, except for one guy guarding me. Had two hives up in no time and repelled a MAJOR push by the marines on our first hive. Another guy Gorged and had 3 hives less than 10 minutes into the game. Had the other team down and out before half our team even had a chance to Fade.
At all times both teams were full. Had a least 2-3 people on my team (alien) who admitted it was first or second time playing. Lots of newbies on board both sides.
It is true some maps can favor one side. But my original point is that this game itself is balanced. Period. Winning or losing has a hell of a lot more to do with playing as a team than ANY OTHER FACTOR.
My hat is off to the developers. They have done something no othe major label has been able to accomplish:
1) combine an RTS and FPS
2) FPS with 2 teams that have totally different structures and strategies, and keep it balanced.
You can reply to this if you want, I was just shouting my opinion.
