1. What's the max # of people?
2. How much caffeine is too much?
3. How good should the speakers of the parties involved be?

1. max #? You've got too many when people have to set up outside because there's no more room.

2. Don't be silly.

3. Computer sound system? Umm... it isn't *all* that important... I might suggest headphones though, personally.

1. as long as u have cables and hubs
2. it depends on the duration of the party on average you drink 2/4 gallon redbull a day to keep awake this increases the longer ur awake.
3. let the players use headphones and install 1 stereo with big speakers for the whole hall .(be smart make sure that Speakers r forbidden they r realy annoying exept those who have been placed by the lanparty crew

that's why most ppl use headphones becouse of the noise (talking,pc's,music)
and your network can be extended to +100 mtr cables how far exactly i don't know but i can travel som distance be4 it loses speed becouse of the lenght of the cable

1) Im hosting a LAN in a warehouse soon enough (around when NS will be released), im looking at approx 30 people. 12 seems to be a good number for small LANs, just enough for a proper team game, but you can still keep it very informal between friends.

2) I maxed out on approx 15 litres of cocacola per 24 hour period, after that you get stomach cramps and headaches. That was before I gave the stuff up.

3) Headphones for everyone at larger LAN's. For smaller LANs, mostly headphones with a couble of people with good sound systems and a pile of MP3's.

Also, try to make sure people cannot look at others screens too easily. It can get a tad annoying. One way is to invest in a hardware version of Punkbuster (nameley a stick to hit people found craning their necks to see you screen ). Cheap but effective.

well, i go to a lot, but here is my personal preferences when hosting at my (parents) home...

1. 8 at max, including me. we can't fit many more comfortably.

2. i don't drink pop, but i occasionally have some coffee. if i need to stay awake, i will myself to do it. however, i prefer to get a good sleep, then wake up early and get back to gaming.

3. i cut out two of my 4 speakers as to not disturb others with me. i perfer that people bring small speakers, without sub, or high-quality headphones. i dont mind the noise, but it becomes difficult when you don't know which noise is comming from your own computer.

btw, i keep a core of computers on my 5-port 10/100 switch. these are set up as the servers, my close friends, and/or people staying for a while. the rest of the people connect through their lamo 10mb hubs... for gaming, you need no more than 10, but for file transfers and servers, 100 is way better.
