Whilst Flayra wouldn't dream of mentioning this himself, I felt I'd just point out that even if Flay kept all the money for himself (which he won't because he's a dumb hippy), it's not going to offset the cost of:

2 Years salary as a professional game coder (which he used to do) @ $35,000

1 Years hosting of NS.ORG & RR.ORG @ $5000

Professional voice actors @ $2-5000

Flights to see Valve @ $1000

etc, etc, etc.

If Flay had made NS in order to get a job in the games industry, then fair enough, you could just say that he was working for his own gain. But he LEFT a well paid job in the industry to make NS. It has cost him, Monse and others at least around $100,000.

He did this freely, so there's no compulsion to donate money. But before anyone else starts posting idle comments about where the money might be going, consider the fact that he's already stated that the money will go on NS development and that <b>anyway</b> 5000 people would need to donate before he'd even start to <b>break even</b>. If his intention is to take the money and run, then he's both selfish and dumb. I've come to know him over the past year and I can tell you he is neither. Honestly, I can tell you that the thought that people would be willing to pay for NS means more to Flayra than the money.

But if 15 people donate, at least he'll make rent this month.

Lemme get this straight: Diverse entities have pooled together what equals 100.000$ to give birth to Natural Selection? I am flabbgergasted. I knew it had high "production value" but naïve as I was, I thought it was no where near that figure.

I guess I'll have to shed myself of my natural fear & loathing of Paypal and fork over.

'Professional' production costs are a lot higher then this figure. Remember Grendel's guestimate was $100,000 <b>at least</b>. I wouldn't be surprised if it's higher then that.

No, i'd find that quite rude , Flyra and the team have come all this way , putting there own hard,long hours into a project, paying for hosting, etc. Its not like they bunged together some quick and simple game and where trying to get as much for it as possible. They're not forcing you to pay to download it, there not making you pay to join the forum, they arent making you do anything. I think Flyra deserves something back so i'll definitely be sending my $20 over paypal.
