VAC is crap. C-D is known to work, takes up minimal CPU usuage, a word document takes up more, has NO lag (unless you use a 9600K baud modem), and works by a far simpler and safer method than VAC's.

That's how it'd work if I ruled the universe, anyway.
If vac only runs reasonably on XP system then don't put it in, there aren't that many cheaters as it is but quite frankly I'm not about to shell out 100$ to bill gates just so i can play NS again. If vavle can't make a halflife addition that will run on ALL system that can run half life i say ditch it, the game is fine as it is.

****The benefit of cheating death as opposed to VAC is that for a cheater to remain playing on a CD server, he has to constantly ensure his h4x will get past CD. This is generally too much of a hassle, so he goes to another server.
The idea of CD is deterrence, not defeat, of cheats. If all servers have CD, then it becomes worthless. It also has a secondary purpose of making any regular player go to thr trouble of downloading CD. Because of the added hassle of doing this, it keeps the muppets away in general. ****
Example: My clan server used to run CD a year and a half ago, long before it fell into the clutches of the United Admins. Thanks to CD, our servers were populated 24/7 and were some of the most popular in the world with a great crowd of regulars. Now they are vacant a distressing amount and the regulars have slowly slipped away. We also get far more muppets and cheats on.
I just thought I'd clear that up for those of you who are clearly so intellectually deficient as to fail to realise the whole point of CD servers. As for VAC, again, yes it isn't perfect, but it discourages the majority of people from cheating. It's similar to the concept of a police force. People who say that VAC is pointless are similar to someone saying that the police are useless because they don't stop all crime. Yeah, people are occasionally arrested wrongly and sometimes people get away with their crimes. That doesn't make having police pointless. If you disagree, why not FO to Johannesburg or Detroit. Then, assuming your clueless liberal arse makes it back alive after 6 months, post again. Or not, preferably.
Before CD went over to UA's control I posted quite a bit in the forums... Even if CD is deterrence, I can think of some good ways to implement it so that even if most servers ran CD it would still be strong.
Firstly, encourage people to develop various 'flavors' of CD. AFAIK the only thing in CD which is really cryptic or secretive would be the authentication information. Just knowing how it works to prevent cheats isn't something easy to circumvent...
So with various flavors, have a non-secure CD launcher which they all support. This would automatically start the correct variation of CD for whichever server you go to. And these various flavors would all use different authentication schemes.
Thus what would happen is that there would be strength in the variety of servers. If one variation is cracked, most servers would still be unaffected, and cheaters woul dhave to either concentrate on one variation (which would leave most servers in the clear) or they would focus on all versions independently, which would mean longer time-to-crack the authentication.

Genetic pool? More like a swamp. Morons.
