Who remembers this? Who went?
I was on another one of my nostalgia trips when I started thinking back about one of the most blessed events to ever to have happened to a Nintendo gamer.
To whose of you who don't remember/never knew/weren't born yet, Nintendo Power Fest was like a travelling E3 that went around the country to a lot of major cities (even Oklahoma City). They had hundreds and hundreds of booths, all showing Nintendo games. You could play early prototypes of the games that you were salivating over that would not be out for a year or so. River City Ransom, Ninja Gaiden 3, Mega-Man 3, all these were great. But the absolute show stealer was Super Mario Bros. 3. It was the very first public showing of this game (even before The Wizard), and you got to PLAY it. I remember I waited in line what must have been 2 hours just to play the game for 15 minutes, but I absolutely LOVED it! Every minute of it! It was pure, absolute gaming heaven, even better than Quakecon!
There was also a competition to find the best Nintendo player on earth. There were 3 games you had to play, SMB1, Rad Racer, and Tetris. The competition was intense, and I didn't even make it past the first round (along w/ about 200 other people heh). Mainly cause I had never played Rad Racer before. But the cartridge for this is actually worth quite a bit (more than $1000) if you can get your hands on it.

So who else went to this thing? Anybody? If so, please share your memories w/ us too! And also try to go and find some pictures. I looked all over everything Google spat out, but found nothing. :(

/me will be dreaming of super mario bros tonight...
ouch.
As for powerfest, I was a meager 7 years old when that happened. My family bought our nintendo in 1989 and it's gotten a lot of use lately (I'm now in college). If you can remember, there used to be a time when nintendo power didn't suck, either. I personally believe all consoles have gone straight to H*** (think warm), especially microsoft with their very smart move to keep Halo for Xbox until its sequel came out... bastages.
