Sounds very useful. I can't put my finger on it but it needs something visually(No I am not asking for a redo of the hud, just little something).

I dont know if this question will be answered (buried all the way on page 5) but will the commander mini map finally update correctly? Having a little blue dot for every commander action (including health packs, ammo and Obs pings) makes the minimap somewhat useless. Having an up to date, real time minimap would probably be the best improvement to the CC interface that I could think of. Thanks for hearing me out.

I've often thought that if something such as this was implemented it would make the Marines more organised especially on Public servers. This idea might actually help balance things a bit without having to tweak res pts and weapons etc.

I was looking through the list of changes, and that reminds me very heavily of the evilX comm hud hack for ns. It came out ages ago, and implemented almost all those (except a few of them are 'emulated' ofcourse). There is a working 'queue' system for marine requests (along the left side of the screen, left click brings you to the request, right-click makes it disappear), lets you add all hilighted marines into one of 10 groups, and then hitting some special bind will auto-hilight just those ppl (cheap grouping system).

Though it was a hack, ofcourse it included some comm cheating features, like auto-healthing jetpackers (for hive attacks), and the ability to auto-drop health when a marine requests without even moving the comm hud. It also included a pile of automated dropping mechanisms, like a marine saying 'ha' will make it drop a ha on that person automatically. Only down side is it used a .exe preloader and required a ATI vidcard for the opengl stuff to work.

Would be awesome to see it implemented properly in the game, as well as that 'group being damaged' notification will be cool.

i want to figure out how to do waypoints properly

a good thing would be 'drop a med pack, and then right click on it and select insert waypoint' and on every marines screens it has the waypoint also with explaining what it is

but this may have already been implemented, i started two days ago and played only a couple hours.

Sounds good, just want to give my support to the following ideas...

These I find especially useful:
-Shift+click to add one marine at a time to a group.
-Show names above marines.
-All items should stay selected, right click to deselect an item from the build menu. So you can drop several of anything without having to reselect them.

w00t !
very very nice work, flayra !

about the suggestions a lot of people have made in this threat:

- adding/deselecting units to/from the current selection using CTRL or something like that would of cource be AWSOME !!
But since i have no clue how much work this feature would be i can only say that the actual changes on Commander-Mode are more than I expected.

- "micromanagement / assigning different ranks to marine players" is something i really don't like... and i don't think it fit's the Marine gameplay well. The Commander is the man in charge of the operation, the rest of the Marine team should be all equal (i guess this is one of the reasons why the scores don't show up!).
I don't think marine teams need a special "sub-commander" or something... after all a few stripes on your armor's shoulder are no match for a good working comminication of the marines themself.
When commanding I require from my marines that they can adept to different situations (e.g. chasing down a retreating Fade and so on...) with me having to tell them every little thing... I don't want brainless puppets, I want THINKING puppets

- names always visible / marines shining bright all the time... well, I don't think we need shining players, but if this should ever be implemented i suggest that you can switch it on and of (like alien sight).
Marine names would be nice, but since we can assign hotgroups now I personally will tent to order only complete groups most of the time... although especially on a public server this could help sometimes.

just my 2 cents

The query MIGHT be abused by llamas constantly asking for health, making others who really need the health wait in line for a long time (even if the commander refuses the order it still take him to the llama)

right?

Unless you have a one-request-per-marine system, or implement the Commander-set ranking system (suggested elsewhere). Could rank the health request-spammer as 'llama' and they get nothing from you. Rank your better players as Veteran, and they get priority. Sergeant for hotgroup team leaders, again putting them at the head of the queue.

Well if that isn't amazing. You guys realize we're the old fogies of NS? Once we get to version 2 something, people that start are going to look and go "How the hell did you guys ever play this thing without a hot group?" "Well kid, when I was your age, we had to SCROLL the map to that particular marine. Yeah. Took a second. My brittle old man hip..."

Anyway, big question, knawing at me, espcially since this is even better than what I wanted myself.

CAN YOU DROP AMMO AND WEAPONS ONTO THE ICONS OF MARIENS?

I ask this becuase moving the map back and forth, even if it's with a click of a button, could get hecktic, small map OR large. My idea is have the whole set of marine faces, lined up along the bottom al la Star Craft, and individualy or as a squad, blink a certian color or symbol when they wanted health, same for ammo, and then you could click drop ammo, and click on the FACE, and they'd get it. Even better would be a simple "Yes" command, like cliking the icon flashing in the marine face...what do you think?

Thank you for the info, man. More than you can say, this exicites me about V 1.1

And to think. I thought you were just going to fix a few bugs....

SARGEANTS

let's talk about sargeants (or rankings).

There are two ways this could work:

1) automatic, based on number of kills, or number of tasks completed (I believe this is recorded because a voice says "I'm done" when a task is completed), etc. This would also allow for automatic gradations of rank.

2) commander-assigned. This would force the commander to specifically assign rankings. Probably would be tedious.

How is this useful?

1) you know who to entrust with important equipment or tasks. This alone would be worth it.

2) now that there is "jump-to-squad", you have to pick where to jump. The natural choice is the nearest sargeant (or highest rank) in the squad.

Rankings would not have to imply any other benefit. It might be nice to be able to visually identify people by rank though (their health circle is a different color maybe? or they get some different sort of symbol on them?). This would also give a little ego boost to players (like me) who aren't equipment hoarders, but just follow orders and complete tasks with their trusty LMG.

The main thing is to make it as simple as possible if this feature is ever implemented.
