Mappers *duh*
Well i jjust wanted to ask a few questions, seeing all that nice work form relic and badmofo, me myself and i want to map something 2!
First off here's my list:
1. What do you guys use: the worldcraft that came with the hl cd?
2. Where did you learn it, is there somewhere a tutorial on the web ,or did you just followed the tutorial that comes with worldcraft and experimented with that
3.Is that particle thing difficult 2 master?

1) The newest version of WC is 3.3 (the verison on the HL CD is 2.0). You can grab 3.3 here: http://www.valve-erc.com/files/?category=Worldcraft
2) I'd drop by the Valve ERC (http://www.valve-erc.com) or Snark Pit (http://www.planethalflife.com/snarkpit). Both have helped me greatly in my development, and I highly recommend either. There are other places, too, of course, but these are the two I've dealt the most with. It's also possible to teach yourself, but probably you'll need a lot more time to grasp the main concepts. (I personally spent too much time trying to teach myself without even resorting to any tutorials early on, I believe that really hurt my progress about 2-3 years ago... )
3) Ok, so I can't answer this one all that well. I personally haven't managed any stellar effects with the particle system, but the basic concept itself is fairly easy to grasp... From my experience, at least, it seems to be based on a lot of trial and error as to whether or not an effect works. (Anyone else with more particle experience, please feel free to build upon or clarify this).
Hope that helps you.
oh thx for the info, i'll get started with the tutors
First learn to walk, then to run.
I was just looking at it in the wrong angle!
Lol looks cool though.
A great place to learn the basics of hl mapping is the old tutorials at Wavelength. That's what got me started. I also highly recommend valve-erc, which KungFuSquirrel mentioned.
It look like an old man performing witchcraft, doesn't it?
i doubt anyone here is quite a "master" with the particles yet. (well, maybe relic, merk, and "those" kind of ppl) in fact, i haven't even started with them yet. anyway, i understand that they are pretty challenging, but they look so damn fine.
There are a few places I recommend, the first of which being Counter-Map (CS mapping, but the tuts cover more broad areas)
I would also recommend you check out Chrome's Berzerker's Guide to Mapping for NS, a nice guide to NS mapping, in which I contributed a little bit about particles.
I fancy myself experienced in the ways of particles, and I'd say the absolute hardest part are those damn velocity parameters. Check out the end of the berserker's guide for a bit about what those little numbers mean.
I do find that particle editing can be relaxing and enjoyable -- when it works. I'm rather pleased with results I've gotten from my raindrop particles, and later this evening I'm embarking on a quest to produce gushing hot water and steam from these broken b****in' boilers that I brewed up last night. I love alliteration.
You can make some awesome effects with relatively minimal effort, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, and mostly the NS team.
