How will hand grenades work?

In the "NS features" section at Readyroom.org, it says that there will be hand grenades in NS.
There are two things that I've been wondering about:

1) In CS, a grenade always detonates a fixed amount of time after it's been thrown. Will you be able to control this "time to detonation" in NS?
2) If you get killed while holding a primed grenade in your hands, will the grenade still detonate?

I think they will detonate if you die with one in your hands if you already pushed the button(?)/pulled out the ring. Ns has some realism in it, you know, in cs for example they explode aswell.

And for such advanced weaponconfig. i don't think/know it's in the mod, i think it wouldn't work if it was in it, just take gunman chronicles for example, face it no-one liked that game, well i did but just the story kept me going and i rarely used the config options. It would add some extra tactic to the game but i think people are forgetting what this mod stands for.

It stands for ACTION, TERROR, FAST REFLEXES, not fiddling with your gun and then shoot, NOOOO bob'll have you for a snnakc in no time, you don't think, the commander thinks for you! You just SHOOT, and OBEY. YOU WANT THE TRUTH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

Actually, NS isn't about action, terror and reflexes...check the "About NS" section for a summary.

Actually, I was thinking of a simpler way to control detonation time:
When you press primary fire, you pull out the pin, and a 5-second timer starts ticking. If you don't throw the grenade (by releasing primary fire) before the 5 seconds are over, it will explode in your hands. If you throw it 2 seconds after pulling the pin, it will detonate 3 seconds after being thrown.
By the way, this is how grenades work in Global Warfare.

I was just wondering if NS will use the CS system, the GW system, or a different one.

All this, based on out of date RR info. Sigh...

There is a Grenade Launcher in NS, but no pineapples. The GL is something which you can research and give to your troops who want to be grenadiers, and it fires HE rounds on a short timer. This allows you to do some fun richochet shots around a corner ala Quake 1.

It's a 'blast'. Heh. Ehh heh heh. Ha ha hah ahahaha ah haa ha AHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!! *Cough cough*

I don't think NS should be like TFC. GLs = Good. Fragmentation Grenades = llamaism.

Oh so no grenades, oh well never use them anywayz, grenade launcher is much cooler than the old pineapple.

Grenades don't blow up after you pull the pin. They blow up once you release the 'spoon' shaped handle. This lights the fuse. This is designed so that real life grenades do not kill people until 3 seconds after they are thrown.

It is NOT reallistic for grenades to blow up if you hold them for more than 3 seconds. This simply don't work that way in real life.

Well, it's supposed to be 5 seconds, but sometimes it was 3, much to my dismay when I was a pit NCO at a grenade range for 2 heart attack-inducing months.

Liq is correct about the spoon. There are actually three safety devices on a (US M67) fragmentation grenade. A spring clip, which holds down the spoon, the safety wire (often called a pin), and the 'spoon', which is just a small tensioned lever along the side of the grenade. After you flick off the clip with a thumb, you twist and yank the pin out (it as pretty hard to do actually). Then, if you continue to hold the spoon tight, you are still not armed. Releasing tension on the spoon calls it to fall off. You then chuck away. We taught Marines to judge how far they were going to throw and let the grenade 'cook off' accordingly, by holding it with the spoon off for a few seconds while the fuze burned. If you threw it through an open window, for example, and it had lots of time on the fuze, the enemy could just throw it back in your face.

Remind me to tell you some 10-years-scared-off-my-life stories about when I was a grenade instructor. Preferrably if I have some booze nearby.

MonsE, I for one am glad you survived teaching grenade chunking lessons.

/me stands and applauds MonsE for 90 seconds after every other sentence, just like everyone did during Bush's state-of-the-union speech tonight.

Im glad that handgrenades will not be a part of NS.Although I did enjoy them hugely in other halflife mods( most notabely in TFC ) I resented the horrific spamming that inevitably came with them. Will the grenade launcher be a separate weapon or a below-barrel addon?
On a different note that rising and lowering sound the machinegun makes in Aliens is the coolest sound I know.

Just to further confuse this thread, there very well may be hand grenades in NS. I have one in there but it doesn't work right yet.

i would like handgrenades, but sort of uv-grenades who have a similar effect like the grenades in metal gear solid (the distortion grenades... dont know the name)... but for a area, and as effect have that all cloaking aliens are visible... you could throw in a grenade, then enter and see all the cloacked aliens... mayb even highlight them.

btw what do you think about my new flashlight idea?

That would be more something like some sort of flashbang but the marine wears some sort of shades(some filter anywayz) Djees this is hard to explain in english, you know in a manga when there's a big explosion? You get this white background and the character in fornt is black, you know 'cause light is behind him, so when you would throw such a grenade the cloaked aliens should be visible 'cause of their shadow and cause of the shades the marine wouldn't be affected by the flash. Dunno if they should put i in though, the cloaking is a big advantage for the aliens, then again this is a simpel way to detect those cloaked aliens and as the marines are humans they shoul have discovered this a long time ago, oh well we'll c.
