<div class="IPBDescription">Bring what ya got....</div> Grudge matches are always fun. Make a non-serious topic to debate to death, declare a winner and then start a new one.

Seeing the C&C Generals post in serious dicussion(of all places) gave me an idea for the first one.

Whats the best of the latest Next Generation Real Time Strategy games.....
Warcraft3, Age of Mythology, C&C Generals. All three are the best and lastest from the three big series. Which one wins out an why?

My Veiws. Winner is Age of Mythology.

Why?
Dont get me wrong, I am an old school blizzard entertainment player. All about the warcraft series. But I also love the Age of empires series. I played a few C&C games, but did not get into them as much. Besides red alert2.
I love warcraft3 in many ways, it departs from the older formulas and tries to add new RPG elements. While this was refreshing at first. It fustrated me after a while, its not a true RTS...its more of an Tactical force/RPG game. Its more about micromanagement than anything else, but also getting good heros. If it was pure mirco, I would love it, but the heros just make me not think of it as a strategy game. Its not about unit counters at all, it is to a degree, but a strong hero can wipe an army out. That and the resourse management is, as all blizzard games, very minimal.
C&C Generals is also a great game. But its few flaws really reall bring it down. Its outdated in many ways, both in its interface, features, and some of its graphics. Its a fun game, and beautiful. It has alot of nice strategy also, but its clunky interface gets annoying to me alot.
Age of Mythology. Wow, it was amazing, and still is. It combines alot of the latest RTS inovations and features along with liquid smooth animations and effects. Its unit counter system and resourse management and tech trees are spectatular. Tactis and micromanagement still play a crucial role, but are not absolute decides. that being, if you run into a counter unit, you are probally going to loose if you have the unit that is countered by the counter-unit.(yikes hard to type there).

Pretty much AoM comes the closet for me of combining all the best features of my favorite RTS games. It has resourse management, micromanagement, small group tactis, large group counterunits, formations, and landscape advantages.

All the games are great, but AoM wins it out for me. Disagree that anything else is better of the three? prove it..hehe.

PS. to be honest, if C&C had a better interface and better graphics, and its other flaws were fixed, it would probally be my favorite.

    My opinion:

    WarCraft 3.

I mean come on, its WARCRAFT. Orcs. Humans. Its classic. Those of you sad fellows who weren't around for War2, I can understand your lack of understanding, as its probably hard for you to comprehend how closely a lot of us hold Warcraft 2 to our hearts. Its pretty much right in between DOOM and Wolf3D as far as bliss goes.

I love Generals and think its the best of the C&C series, but I just don't think it holds a candle to WarCraft 3.

AOM sadly, I didn't get into at all. It just seemed like more of the same as AOE2.5 or something...

    My opinion: Warcraft III.

If NS hadn't come along, I would still be playing this, and this alone. The heroes just added SO much in the way of unit tactics that it wasn't even funny.

Pretty good storyline overall, and multiplayer is a blast, even with all the cheaters.

    Age of Mythology

Warcraft3 is good, but it's not THAT good... it seems so simple after AoM...

And no, I never got War2... and I don't care, because war3!=war2 so do'nt even bring it up.

AoM just has such depth and complexity that new strategies are brought out almost monthly, each more difficult to counter than the last. Games are dynamic, and large scale. Strategies are numerous. It's really a battle of the minds.

My vote goes to War3 as well.

Me and a few friends of mine still play multiplayer Warcraft 3 fairly regularly, and still almost always have a blast. I tried getting them into NS, but they preferred their cute elves and typical tactics of playing the exact same way <i>every time</i> (ie: make lots of dragon-esque units and crush the map).

    <i>disclaimer : the following is sort of unrelated, but still.......</i> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I <i>almost</i> got one of 'em into NS. I was playing as alien once when a friend stopped over and asked what I was playing. So I let him give it a shot. I told him how to evolve into Gorge and build a few chambers, and he nearly soiled himself when he saw an Onos run up the hall towards him booming "<b>heal me!</b>". <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Oh man, I cut my teeth on warcraft1, and warcraft2 was my highpoint of most of the 90's. God, that game owned. But still, AoM is just nearing perfection. Its all about strategy, and management. Those are the two things that make a RTS great. War3 is still disappointing. If they would have just not done that dange RPG thing. ARG. I am probally just to dumb to adapt to the whole rts/rpg thing. But I wish so bad it would have been a true rts...it could have been a contender......it could have made something of its self...

ok..ok..bad rocky flashback, but still. How do you play warcraft3. I played for a few weeks, about 5. Even played a bunch online and did decent. It seems like the strategy was soo limited. It came down to about 3 strategy's for each side. I played undead. It it was pretty much ghouls with duel aura everytime. I think I will start playing it again and give it another try. Maybe I will actually enjoy it again.

My opinion: Anything but Warcraft III

Reason: Warcraft III is the only one I've played. Never uninstalled anything as quick in my life. =\

    How about NS?
Ok Its cross-genre and would probably make all the arguing moot so never mind.

    WC3.

I played the AoM demo and just couldn't get into it. the Ao games always had too many units for my taste.

I've played CNC (only SP though) and its pretty good, but not as good as WC3.

    WC3 > CNC:G > AoM

    (P.S. THE WC3 EXPANSION IS GOING TO RAWK YOUR PANCE! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )

Warcraft 3 baby. Warcraft 2 was neato, and Age of Empires/Kings was neatoer, and Red Alert was neatoest, but we're talking about now, and right now, Warcraft 3 has advanced past Warcraft 2. Age of Mythology is an AoK clone with a new resource and myth units. There are some wierd gameplay decisions in that thing. C&C Generals I can only speak for briefly, but it has interface poopoo like everyone said. But Warcraft 3, ooh baby. Great game. People keep saying that there are only a few strategies for each side, and if you don't do one you will lose, but they really are exaggerating. I have tried every unit under the sun, and every combo under the sun, and most of them are viable. So quiet!

    <b>Warcraft 3 toasts y0r pancezors.</b>
