<div class="IPBDescription">Structures and Building</div> I've been playing for several weeks now, and have gotten pretty good at my hunter skillz, but I really really want to learn how to be a good gorge. I've read the literature (the forum and manual) and have spent countless hours spectating matches just to watch the gorges in action (and have learned some great things to do, and not to do). But I have a question...
Once the gorge pays the resources and sets down a structure (other than hive, of course ^_^), which structures build themselves, and which does the gorge have to actively build with the use key?

Usually, in the early game, you want to always build the structures yourself. Later in the game, when you're infesting the map, you can leave the structures building on their own and waltz over to another part of the map to cap resources and infest some more.
"What the ---- are you doing? We're attacking marine spawn! Don't just stand there building! Drop like thirty defense towers so we can heal faster!"
I just thought the fade didn't know what he was doing. Turns out it was the gorge. ^_^
Sometimes, it's really hard for noobies to tell who really knows their stuff, and who's just completely full of it.
The only structure that cannot be built any faster is a new hive - these grow at their own rate defined by the game, and cannot be 'used' to speed them up.
And yes you can't speed up a hive's build time. BUt you can help if from dieing to quickley when it's getting shot at by putting 3 defence chambers right under the hive to help heal it.

The way the res sytem works is that every alien gets a chunk of the res, with 3 chunks going to the gorge. This means that for every 1 res the aliens get the gorge gets 3. Once the one hive aliens are at their 33/33 max for one hive, all the res they would normally get if not maxed, goes straight to the gorge. If you have 2 gorges it is split. So convincing your allies to stay skulk means you get res faster until hive 2 is up. Use this to your advantage.
Another point, when setting up a wall of pain (wall of lame is SOOO outdated) set down as many chambers as you can before starting to build any in the order you feel is best. This does 2 things, 1) it allows chambers to build as you concentrate on building another structure, getting your wall up MUCH faster, and 2) provides you with something to hide behind if a marine comes around a corner as you are building.
Also try to keep your 'weapon' on heal spray, that way you can heal an ally at a moments notice, and you can heal your structures as you hop around them trying to stay out of the marines line of sight. Heal spray will hurt marines so use it prodigously.
the extra rez you get from your buddies being maxed out is not THAT much
here is how the rez model works:
(#rez towers)*(rez scaler, this is a set # something like .23) * (# of aliens TOTAL)
now you take all of the (living non gorge aliens) + (the number of living gorges*3)
now divid that up between the living players (gorges get 3 shares every one else gets 1)
IF SOME ONE CAN NOT TAKE THEIR SHARE:
It goes back in the pool for the next tick

getting 4 rez
4 players (2 dead, one skulk at 33 and one gorge)
so 4/4 (1+3) = 1 so each 'share' is 1
the gorge gets 3 and the skulk would have gotten 1 however b/c he is full the 1 rez goes into the pot for the next tick
next tick:
lets assume that everything is the same (4 players, 4 rez, 2 dead, one gorge, one full skulk)
however this time there is that one extra rez so the total is 5
5/4 = 1.2 the skulk gets 0 (1.2 goes back in) and the gorge gets 1.6 (I do not know what happens to partial rez, I think you keep them but you only have acess to the full pieces)
oh and for that fade who told the gorge to drop a ton of DCs, he is an idiot
DCs take a LONG time to build, the best thing to do would be drop about 4 and then start building the first one.
Remember that you can only be healed by a MAX of 3 DCs at one time (the extra is sort of a fall back). AND the faster that first DC is up the faster it can heal (and in the waiting time HEAL SPRAY!!!)

OH last one:WEB!!! no on seems to use this properly
You are limited to the number of strands in one area (don't know how many), use them wisely
if you just spam web all over, marines will see it and weld it away. HOWEVER if you put some trategicly placed webs you will be able to use them much more efficently
some examples:
put OCs down right on the edge of a corner (so you actualy have to be rather close to them before you see em). Now place one strand of web on the FLOOR (yes it works) right were they have to step to be able to see the OCS (And thus the OCs can hit em) then keep on webing them <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Babblers LOOK UP, if you don't look up they will spawn in the ground and thus never exist <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
*Healspray works on buildings, but does NOT work on half-built buildings to speed them up. (just like welders).
*There's nothing you can do to speed up building a hive. Pressing use doesn't do anything.
