Dark Screenshots

<div class="IPBDescription">How do I make them brighter?</div> A simple question:

I've been having trouble getting good NS screenshots because they always turn out too dark. I've had plenty of great looking shots ruined by this, that would otherwise have turned out perfect. Does anyone know how I can make my screenshots brighter so they actually look like they do in game?

Thanks, that is all <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Load them into your favorite graphics editor program. Adjust brightness. Save. ACDSee and Photoshop can do it in batch, probably any other decent progs too.

    Ever tired using a image editing software? Photoshop would do it in about 0.0067 seconds, lol.

    From the Mapping Forum FAQ
    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Q: Why are my screenshots coming out darker than they look in game?

    A: There's this really cool effect in NS where brigher things become brighter, and darker things stay the same. It lends a more vivid and realistic view to the whole map. If you have Photoshop, and you want the screenshot to look right, use this method to fix the gamma settings.
    Go to Image->Adjust->Levels in Photoshop. There are three values next to "input level".  Change the last value according to this formula:
                                    value = 255 - (WorldcraftGammaSetting - 1.0)*128<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    The problem with this is you need to know what Gamma setting the official Maps used.

    (/me wonders if someone will be suddenly inspired and make a small program to do this with batches of screenies)

    Simply open up a good graphics program (No MS paint isn’t god enough <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )
    Just bump up the brightness and contrast until satisfied

    You could change your lightgamma cvar from 2.5 to 2. I have this value in my autoexec.cfg as Half Life resets the va;ue back to 2.5 everytime you start the game up. Using this value has helped both me and my crap monitor and also with the brightness of my screenies. Any higher though in my opinion would be considerdd cheating by many including me.
