Observatory Upgrade

This just aint fair! You guys have covered every subject going....I can't get any posts in unless I want to look a complete dork and repeat what some more experienced player has already mentioned. And then it came too me! Nobody seems to mention the upgrade for the observatory! In the games that I comm for, I find it one of the most useful things to do. Portal, armoury, turret factory, couple of turrets, observatory.....upgrade. The marines I play with love being able to see if anything is incoming straight from the start. They know wether theres time to help build that structure or if they are needed on point. Likewise, moving through the corridors, fore warned is fore armed and they can get themselves in a position to take out that alien the instant his snouts stuck round the corner. I find it useful to be able to point something out to a marine if his attention is elsewhere, away from the blue circle bareing down on him from behind. Other than that, I've picked up a huge amount of info from you all....thanks! (The info about the welder is very interesting!)

    Actually, motion tracking has been brought up time and time again. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    But most of those were prior to 1.04. Now, I still like motion tracking - a lot. But oftentimes I have a hard decision as to get that upgrade, or go straight for an arms lab.

    Sure, lvl1 armor gives your marines the ability to take an extra bite, but most of the time, when you're going against coordinated skulks, that one extra bite doesn't amount to much.

    On the other hand, if you get MT first, your marines *know* that they're about to be attacked, and can prepare for it - they won't get hit much, if at all, so the ability to take 3 bites instead of 2 is really moot.

    You don't even need coordinated attacks. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> When a skulk does start biting on a marine that marine is 90% of the time equal to a dead piece of useless *beep*. That's why I like MT more. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    MT might acutally be a good investment. In theory, it'd give your marines a certain % boost in their effectiveness, since they can't really be ambushed effectively anymore. If your marines are competent enough to say...I dunno, survive an additional 100% of the time, then it might be a worthy investment to make.

    i prefer motion tracking first. i see a difference on both sides. when im a marine and we get motion tracking early, the benefits are obvious. when im an alien and the marines get motion tracking early, its a lot harder for me to flank marines and sneak up on them. also it gives marines a much more effective wall hack since hive sight isn't quite as accurate as motion tracking.

    Sorry <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> I must have missed this the other day!

    As too observing the different behaviour of the various aliens.......I must be doing something wrong as I have enough trouble keeping up with the marines demands, let alone taking notes on the motion of red pixels. Hopefully things get less frantic as more experience is earnt! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Man the only games I EVER win as comm I get motion right off the bat. Not only does it help the marines in clearing out a hive but it helps immensly in defending the base and hives early on untill they can be locked down. Motion is four-billion times more usefull than weapon or armor upgrades can ever be. You don't need better armor and weapons period if you can see the skulk coming in advance, because range is the marine's greatest advantage.

    I agree with the majority opinion that getting motion tracking early is essential. I don't care that I can't take that extra skulk bite, since with MT it is significantly less likely that the skulk will get any bite.

    The obs has to be built early anyway to support phase gates, so it only makes sense to get MT. Then start on the wpn and armour upgrades. (at least lvl 2 of each before the first jetpack or HMG, please.)
