Yep, this is straight off the schoolyard, when being chosen first for that dodgeball game *meant* something.
Anyways, we usually get the captains from the last match to pick the captains for the next. Then we do rock-paper-scissors to see who goes first (they type it in, and then someone does a voice countdown and they both hit enter at the same time). Then, the captains pick teammates, one at a time.

Nothing super fantastic or special... Just a neat little thing that's nice to see on a server with lots of regulars.

No, people new to the server take that place. As one round was ending someone said "Lets play dodgeball next game!" and I had no idea what they were talking about.
Funny thing is, in grade school I was often the last picked for teams, though being scrawny as I was I often won dodgeball games. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I created "draft" game and here's the rules if any other server admins want to try it out.
Select two regulars as your captains. It is advisible to have fun_mode on while in the ready room. one captain types glow red, the other types glow blue. All players line up against a wall. When a captain selects a player, they type glow 'color' and stand near the entrance to the join marines/aliens side. When all but one player has been selected I play the nelson haha .wav from the server <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> .
Both teams enter their respected side. I like to set the start_time to 45 seconds so each team can talk about their strategy before the match starts. You can also turn on tournament mode if you'd like to play with friendly fire.
If a team wins on a rush they are awarded .5 points. A win is awarded 1 point. After a non-rush victory has been obtained, both teams switch sides and you play on the same map. After each team has played both marines and aliens the match is over.
Team with the most points wins. In the event of a tie, make a fun tie-breaker mode. The new one I'll be trying out is "Capture the Gorge." The game runs in tournament mode so FF is on. Each team joins the alien side, with fun_mode on, glowing whatever either red or blue. Each team starts at a unbuilt hive, while the server admin mines off the built hive. Each team gets only 1 gorge, who is not allowed to build. He should wear a [Red-Gorge] or [Blue-Gorge] to make it easy to identify when he's killed. He can only use his healing spray/ spit weapon. If you die, you must join the marine side and stay in the mined hive. The only way to heal hence is by your team gorge. The gorge has no way to heal himself. If you kill the opposing gorge, you win.
