Hives And Resource Nozzles

make sure you have both!
I played... (I forget the map name, generator, ventilation, sewer). Anyways, the first time I built bases directly in the sewer and directly in the generator. Both of these places have no resource nozzles and I was choked out by offense chambers before I could get seiges up. No res

THIS time I took the pumping station right next to the sewer where there was a nozzle, and took Stability outside generator (they were at vent) and from there had a steady flow of resources and ended up winning the map.

In short: Is this a good idea? So long as your seiges are in range of the hive, I see no reason to park right at a hive. Indeed, it may be a nice surprise if once they waste all the time putting it up it gets immediately destroyed by a few scans.

Omg I can't beleive I never though of that. Build it within seige range instead of build right on it....I gotta try that out sometime.

There's a few maps like that. If you can't get to the hive, just build at a res nozzle that's in range. There's no need to get RIGHT to the hive. Case in point: Subspace has mother interface nozzle by it.

another good reason to do this is for the larger hives like refinery. keeps a single lerk from owning your setup from a mile away.

I'm always telling my commanders to do this but it seems like a foreign concept to build anywhere outside the hive room. As far as hive outpost placement goes, there are only one main requirement and one sub-requirement.

The main requirement is that the outpost be in seige range of the hive.

The sub-requirement is that the outpost be able to cover the hives accompanying resource.

In caged, the pumping station outside the sewer hive fills both requirements. And at both the other hives you can build near the resource and still be able to reach the nearby hives as well.

In tanith its not a big deal since the resource is usually right under or near the hive. But you can take fusion reactor from outside by sieging from cargo storage where there is a resource.

In eclipse, marines usually get computer core by making an outpost at south loop and then making a smaller siege outpost on the outside wall of computer core. From south loop you can also go up the ramp and to the right where theres a dead end that enables you to reach the maintenance hive with a siege as well. Some even say that south loop is the key to eclipse.

In nancy, marines often set up an outpost at mother interface where theres a resource and siege the subspace array hive from outside.

I could go on and on but the point is theres usually places outside the hive where you can have your cake and eat it too. You don't need to take every resource to win as long as you at least have it covered with siege fire so the aliens can't get it.
