<div class="IPBDescription">For marines</div>Halo and a smile question: I want to know if there are any left handed weapon/marine models. I like it because in real life I'm lefthanded (see also my nick)

Actually... I believe CS has been the only mod that has let you switch hands. I'm not sure what handed the models are, because I'm not sure of the difference between how a left/right handed person would fire. I'm right-handed, but I've been told I fire weapons left handed. Something about how my eyes work that left-handed comes more naturally to me.
See, IMO, that would make them left handed models... makes sense to me for a right-handed person to hold gun with right hand, and pull trigger with left.
Alright... this is my last comment on this, because it's useless... but I still say that looks left-handed to me. Your dominant hand feels more natural on the gun's stock... not the trigger.
Well, if they do add it, it would not be till later releases (same as CS), as it is more a visual extra, and doesn't add to gameplay/quality of the mod in any major way.

Let the USMC set you straight: the model is shooting right-handed, because the weapon is oriented on the right side of the body, and triggered with the right hand. Those are the only criteria (even for pistols).
You could just mirror the image, but it would assume that (for the LMG at least) that the Marines have a version for lefties and a version for righties. Righties LMG has magazine protruding on the left, Lefties LMG has magazine protruding on the right. Most militaries don't bother with that.
I've fired many weapons and seen many fired by other people (USMC yut, yut! ) and very few people fire a rifle from their left shoulder. For one thing, most rifles aren't made to be fired that way so if you put it in your left shoulder you end up eating hot brass every time you shoot. Some rifles (like the M16A2) have features designed to prevent this, but their not nearly as realiable as just keeping the weapon in your right shoulder to begin with. The only time I personally (and anyone else I know) have used a lefthanded rifle stance is if I'm in the right side of a formation (such as a wedge or staggered column) which dictates that I HAVE TO shoot to the right. Then I switch it so I don't risk flagging my buddies.

<i>Note to self: don't join the military, they'll make you eat hot brass.</i> <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
It's a shame, really... I'm pretty much useless in a right-handed situation. It's laughable how left-handed I am.
Then again, in many sports I was taught right-handed, and play right handed - hockey, golf, soccer, batting in baseball, etc. But tennis, throwing, volleyball, I'm still a lefty. Go fig.
Even though I'm left-handed myself, I dunno how much having left-handed models would add to the game, well besides maybe some file space. I'm not sure if there's a simple way to be able to get left-handed models besides just having mirrored copies of every weapon, although I hear CS 1.4 now does the mirroring of the v_ models (the ones you see yourself carrying) through code instead of having copies.
Oddly enough, although I've never fired a gun, holding something like a rifle or an SMG would probably feel more natural in a right-handed stance than a left-handed stance. It's exactly the same when I play guitar, my left hand likes it better on the fretboard.
I meant a <i>real</i> gun. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
try to play cs with left handed models for once... or with right handed if you normally play left handed. It really does not feel good. So, just for gameplay you must include left handed models, because otherwise it will be an annoyance to some people... and its not really hard to do i think..(cs and hl and all mods do it)...
CS is the only mod I've ever seen do that. I know that some mods use different handed models for some weapons, but you can't change that anywhere... maybe I wasn't just looking hard enough for it?
At any rate, I don't see any pressing -need- to have this included. I'm sure you will just get used to whatever hand your weapon comes up in, but that's just MHO.

For the record - it's not the model that bugs me, so much as the appearance on the HUD. I'd much prefer to have my gun on the left side of the screen. Maybe that's just me.
/me fondly remembers his first ever multi-command script (in Q2)... changed from left-handed to centered when I pressed "fire," then back to lefty when I let go.
I remember a script similar to that. But i got too used to just using left handed alone. Switching back and forth so you wouldn't have to adjust your aiming and then aving a good ole rail gun appear on your left side. w00t
Someone needs to make "The Edge" map of Quake2 for either HL DM or Quake 3, or even Counter Strike

Warehouse (Q2DM8) was my favorite... I remember the first time I played Lithium with my brother - I grappled up through the skylight to the roof, sat there with a railgun, and probably sniped his @$$ about 10 times before he figured out where I was. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
It makes alot more sense if you're right handed to have the right index finger on the trigger. It's your dominant hand, so you're less apt to yank or jerk the trigger. Like the difference between throwing with your dominant and non-dominant hand.
For most people, pulling the trigger with your non-dominant hand would not turn out well, and you'd be spraying shots all over the place. The non-dominant hand is given the just as important job of steadying the rifle by holding the stock. The dominant hand should not be used for anything but trigger squeeze. But, it's true, the dominant hand SHOULD be the right <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Being right-handed, I fire all my weapons with my right hand on the trigger. The reason is that the dominate (trigger) hand controls the finer points of aiming. This allows for a more accurate shot.
I don't know why but with water pistols and game guns I always use my middle finger to pull the trigger not my index finger...odd habit I've been trying to break myself of

Personally, I also would love to see lefty models. I always play lefty when I have the option; have since Q2.
