Does Anyone Know How To Uninstall Directx 8

<div class="IPBDescription">to replace it with DirectX 5 on win98se?</div> I'm working on...well, what you might as well call a "project." Not a school project, and not for a paying job, but it's still high enough priority to ask for help since I've had trouble doing it on 3 different machines so far.

I'm pretty sure it's because the program involved in said project was meant for DirectX 5 and Windows 95. I've tried it on 2 machines with directX 9 (one win2k, other win98se) but neither ran the program correctly. I'm now trying on the oldest bootable system I own, a win98se laptop with directX 8.

Does anyone know how to revert as completely as possible from directX 8 to 5? (Preferably without reformatting my hard drive?) Any help will be appreciated.

I hear Microsoft made it insanely ridiculously hard to do, like a 20 step process. As to that actual process, you try Google yet?

umm, disk image/reinstall

Msoft didn't make a proces for reverting, it basicaly requires doing some serious regedinting and such (not a good idea unless you REALLY know what your doing)

Once you've gone past DirectX 5 on Win95/98, there's no going back. According to MS, you've made changes to the operating system itself at this point (rather than add-on components), and the only way is to reinstall clean.

uhh, I've been running programs (win98 SE) that use DX 5.00 with my DX 8.1a.

What program you tryin to run?

I managed to go from DirectX 9.0 BACK to 8.1.
Do a Google search for DirectX buster and remember
to download the 8.1 set-up first.

Its not as hard as people would have you believe, after all
