Armory - A Disater For Marines?

RussianRussian Join Date: 2003-02-06 Member: 13179Members
Sometimes i wonder - Do people ever learn? Why does a marines after respawning (ealry in the game) heads straight for armory. Wastes 10-20 second loading. Runs out of base. Gets killed without ever shooting his first 50 bullets.

Why a marine, when commander shouts "We are loosing hive, everyone quickly move through pg!!!", stands next to armory and wastes time loading his ammo to max, and when he is finished, pg is already eaten by skulks? WHY ON EARTH DO YOU NEED 250 bullets for lmg, and 30 for you pistol? If you are planning to take on the hive all by yourself comm will be more than happy to drop you plenty of ammo if you run out of it. I agree that armory is very useful but you need to know when to use it.

PS: This topic was probably already discussed. I do not know. If it has then dont bother replying.

This has been disgussed before. I think 3-4 days ago

But you are right. I don't understand that neither. 50/50 ammo in lmg and 10/10 in pistol is enough if you have to protect hive or go somewhere fast after you have died.
You should put this topic in new players forum... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

The few times I play marine, I'll get enough LMG ammo for 2 reloads. It already starts with 50/50, so it's only a 1-second pause while running to the phasegate.

Any more than that is excessive, unless you're simply going on a patrol.

This has been discussed since there have been newbs, ie once NS came out of beta. Beta, of course, is a whole different animal, so it doesn't count <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Still, stupid people can ruin the game for you, whether they just hang about humping the armory or go off alone and die. Set your expectations for them low, and you won't be dissapointed. Sad, eh?

because wasting time getting ammo and then dying in under three seconds is ALMOST as cool as wasting time and money getting HA/HMG then dying in four <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I think someone suggested one day at suggestions and ideas forum that commmander should be able to shut down armory and turn it back on when he wants...

It is a good idea, if your team is full of noobs <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I was thinking this exact same thing tonight when i commed a prac war. It was some ppl from my Clan who i hadnt played with before, but when i was saying "GO THROUGH THE PHASE TO SILO" it seemed to take those at base minutes to move to the phase gate. I guess all we can do is set an example. When i started i always made sure i was full on ammo, now i mostly only ever leave spawn with 50/100 because if I havent killed an alien or two before i reload twice, I'm going to die.

This changes of course if I'm going to defend somewhere, and it ISNT swarming with aliems.

I dont know about turinng armory on and off. You wil probably spend even more time trying to explain to them why you turned it off. It will be like:

-Go through phase gate you bunch of ****.
    -But i need ammo!!
-I turned it off so you would listen.
-Why did you turn it off?
    -Cos you wouldnt listen.
-Listen to what? I need ammo. Gimmi ammo.
-I turned it off you prat.
    -Why?
    etc etc etc

    But its worth a try

think they should make the armoury give out 1 mag at a time, rather than half a mag, its sods law that if u sit there taking 250 lmg bullets u will run out and get killed, where as if you take 100 you will go on a huge killing spree and run out of ammo.

I know they should not fill up when they are needed right then, but I find when I go on a mission to an empty hive to secure it, there can be waves of skulks that can empty all my fully-stocked ammo if we don't have lvl 3 weapons and they have lvl 3 carapace. Even so, if they are good at dodging, they can waste a bunch of our ammo. So I do see the reason to fill the ammo to full when going out for a long haul, but not if the base is under attack or an outpost a phase away is under attack.
  • CAFeddasaurCAFeddasaur Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 5146Members
You hump the armory and load up when you are going to go and scout out a hive for the ol' phase gate action. Pubs comms seldom feel the need to drop ammo on the poor guy sitting in the empty hive, alternating between building the phase gate and saving his own butt from skulks.

On the other hand, in the case where aliens are trying to bust back into a locked-down hive, yes, don't bother with even getting ammo, just leap boldly through the phase. Pretty good chance you are gonna get chomped on the other side, anyway <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

I have an idea, how about we make it so the armory can vanish from the marines' view at the will of the comm. Hard to hump something you don't know is there. (I'm semi-serious)

    I agree, to a point.

That point being the many many times that I've left base with fully loaded ammo from armory and then probably survived, while protecting a hive/getting to a hive/just saving my own ****, long enough to end up on my last two pistol clips. Of course this is always under n00b commanders who I will probably die anyways due to lack of backup and lose the hive. All that ammo kept me alive, but wasted my damned time!

I think I forgot my argument against it!

I think all commanders should do what I did one time. Find the alien hive. Find an obscure corner of it. Drop the armory there (I actually dropped three) and give the marines a waypoint to build. Yell "IF YOU WANT SOME freaking AMMO, GO BUILD THE DAMNED ARMORY!"

Welp I have a simplistic Idea, Make the Payload lower.

    On to correcting the main idea here: Id the "On/Off Switch" for the comm is going to be used, what happens when LLama's get into comm? This is what happens: <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> -(HEY IM OUTTA AMMO AND I CANT HUMP THE ARMORY I NEED AMMO!) <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Yeah that sums it up.

But as previously stated, just make the MG payload less. and give them like 3/4 a clip not 1/2. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

If a lot of them are ******* the armory at critical situations, tell them to move out fast.
    If they dont, recycle it.

i never leave (sans important things) without at least 100 (which is perfect amount imo, if your doing something THAT important comm drops you some ammo), 150 is my max for scouting, 250 only if i am gonna kill some buildings... Remember, you move just a little slower with more ammo you take...

here is a suggestion... Having the comm set the max amount of ammo in reserve? so noobs can only take 100 at the most? then they will sit there though, "WTF? i cant get more ammo!"
