<div class="IPBDescription">:/ !!!</div> So one day I was looking around on Grokster (kinda like Kazaa) for freeware, because software would be illegal <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->. And I found this txt file and DLed it. It contained an ftp IP Port Username and Password. It was a NS server. They said I hacked it and it was illegal. I explain I had proof and they said they COULD get the authorities. Being the guy I was, not wanting to be like a myg0t, I left the server and now posted in the forums being worried.


Its kinda like saying MY USERNAME AND PW IS **** AND IF U USE IT ILL ARREST YOU!

Who would want to do that to such "nice" people like them :/

while what you did was certainly not hacking, technically speaking, it was digital trespassing (a potentially serious offense, as this is the thing hackers are actually in trouble for). They do have every right to tell you to get out. Another example of this situation would be if somebody at Micrsoft left laying around (or even GAVE YOU) the username/password to their intranet and you could access their private stuff, that would definately be illegal as it wasn't the microsoft corporation that allowed you access. And if you were to do that, believe me you'd be going to jail for it. :P

But for playing on a half-life server, that's a pretty frivilous case there. Nobody is gonna bother unless you keep coming back and harrassing them and etc. Don't worry about them, they just wanted you off the server. What you shoulda done though was tell them that one of their boys has the server info on fileshare and have them beat him w/ the wet noodle. :P

So no, don't worry about it. :)


And stop being such a voyuer, digging through people's personal files! :P

Ty so much, I did tell them that and they didn't listen. I even told them to change their password. :|

Please do not post passwords and login IDs to servers that are not yours here in the future. Talk to the server admin in question if you have a problem with his/her server.
