Need Help To Create And Host A Game!

I have:

- HL and NS installed with NS patch 1.04

When I try to create and host a game...

- i can't choose a NS map (is just the HL map in the list)

Questions:

- no need the "dedicated server patch" (about 80 MB)?
- it is needed to check box "Dedicated server" in the game menu?
- What are the procedure to create a game (in step)?

Hm... Are you sure you're actually running NS? If you can see the usual Half-Life menu scheme, you aren't. Go to "custom game" in the main menu" and enable Natural Selection.

If you're going to be hosting games you DO need the latest serverside patch. The way NS is patched right now is that the version you download to PLAY the game hasn't changed since the release, only the version running on the server has. So if you intend to host a game, you do need the patch.

"Dedicated server" means you are intending for your machine to only host a game of NS. It means you are "dedicating" your machine to being a server. You are unable to join the game you create, from that machine, if you set it to dedicated. Check "dedicated server" if you are actually setting up your own SERVER; if you're just setting up a game of it, and the game isn't going to be up for long, don't check it.

Again, it depends on whether you are actually setting up a permenant (or semi-permenant) server for other people to play on, or whether you're just starting a game for the fun of it. I couldn't tell you how to run a permenant server, but to merely host a game all you do is go to "new game", pick a map and settings, and hit "ok".

I can't think of why you'd actually want to host your own game (it sounds like you're new to HL in general). Typically you don't create your own game; you join a server.
