Replacement Knife

<div class="IPBDescription">just a few problems</div> making a steak knife for your knife replacement...

this will be my first model, i've done some skinning before so i plan to do that myself, but my questions are:

here's the specs on the model itself:
modified original
- have a brown handle and a different blade planned
- will use original animations (I can't make 'em, so why change 'em?)
- nothing too special for a first model.


once i've got it done in MS3D, now what do i do?
what's a Q3 file for, and do i need it if i'm just going to use the regular animations?
what else do i need to do?

    QC file. The QC file is the instruction sheet: SMD's are the components. The QC file will tell the MS3D compiler what to do and how to compile it.

    You'll want to look at the Modelling thread stickied at the top of this forum. That has every piece of information you could possibly need. Also, the MS3D help file [find it on the same page you downloaded MS3D from] has anything you need to know to model something from scratch [it's just obvious that you need to select vertexes in counter-clockwise order when making faces].

    I'M SOO STUPID!!! i still can't figure out what i'm suposed to do, i've got a smd, and a Qc....i can export to a MDL but HL mdl viewer won't open it, anything i'm missing?

    You have to export it as the SMD file that the QC file uses as its basis. In order for that to work, it needs to be assigned to bones, et cetera, et cetera. You really should look up a tutorial in <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=20223' target='_blank'>here</a>.

    Hey! Thats a very nice knife! Maybe experement with the end a little... maybe make it curve slightly up or down.     it's the original knife, with one vert moved down... i wanna add more inn there, but i don't know how to all more verticies to an existing plane.

    here's a textured screenie, i'm learning more and more about how to model, and well, still have no clue how to get it from the MS3D files out.... everyone's telling my to go to the tuts, and none of the tuts i find have what i'm looking for...

    i want to have the original animations.... i don't need a tut on how to animate
    it's decompiled from the original knife.... i don't need to know how to make a model from start
    it's not a player model....don't need to know how to make a full skin.
    i've already got the texture done..... don't need to know how to do that
    ....
    how i get it from MS3D and into the game, i'm confused....am i just not reading the right parts? or am i just too friggin idiotic to figure it out?


    too busy to learn how to cut away parts of the plane, so i just black out the texture....it's midterm week, gimme a break...taht and it's my first model....*shrug*

    i'm NOT smart.... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> .... made a w_kn.mdl, and a p_kn.mdl, and i'm still confused as to why it hasn't changed.... i've replaced them with my new ones, but it's still the same ol knife...is there a step that i'm missing?

    I'M SMART AGAIN..... how do i get the W_kn and the P_kn into the.... V_kn?

    Those are all questions that can only be answered by someone who spent hours and hours writing an essay-sized <u>tutorial</u>.

    Nobody can just explain how to do it in a few seconds.

    for some reason, i've figured it out, i should make a tut for somone else, because it's really easy!.... well, the knife part of it is...i've got no clue about anything else, i'm figuring out all this stuff with the knife, and plan on moving to other things after this.... ohh well, hopefully, i'll have it on my site later this weekend, just gotta fix up a few things.

    but then again, it's a lame idea, and well, i hate skeletons... it's a little more confusing than i though....
