Why I Can Sometimes See A Marine?

when he haven't been parasited
Sometimes i can see a marine through a wall even if he doesn't have parasite. Can hive see him?

This has happened to me several times in 1.04 servers. For example, today i was playing ns_eclipse and one marine sneaked in eclipse hive. He jumped on top of the res tower in that hive room. Normally i couldn't be able to see him, because he was actually "inside" that res tower, but there was that yellow sircle on him. After i killed him he asked how did i see him, because he didn't have parasite.

And some other games this has happened too. Sometimes i can see him like he would been parasited, i look somewhere else and then look at him again, but can't see him anymore...

Is this a bug or what?

    Here's one possible explanation:

Another alien was somewhere in the hive location. Although that alien couldn't actually see him because he was hidden in the res chamber, the game registered the marine as being in the alien's sight and thus the hive site created the yellow circle on your screen. Sound right?

Yeah probably it, has happened to me alot, skulks run past marines hiding in the hive room, and a yellow "parasite" indicator shows me to the marine. Although the other skulk runs right past.

    OK. Thanks.
I think that sucks. It is pretty hard to hide anywhere as marine.
I didn't noticed that in 1.03. Is it a new feature in 1.04?

It's always been like that. Part of the "Hive Mind" mentality. If you were looking directly at hime and he was yellow - then he was parasited. Had to be.

The way it works is - when you go behind a wall and another alien looks at him you can see the yellow circle - if you step back in front of the wall with a direct site to him the yellow circle dissappears.

If he has been parasited, the yellow circle never leaves no matter how it is you are viewing him.

The circle only shows when the marine is in view of another alien or sensory chamber. As soon as he is in YOUR view the circle disappears. Also if he's supposedly hiding behind an entity I believe. So even if you cant see him due to a res tower in the way, the game considers him visible and the blip should go away I think. If you run behind a wall, and he IS parasited, the blip returns. Or if another alien can see him or should be able to see him according to the code, the blip would also show.

Omniscience and high manuverbility is our reward for lack of range. Besides ive seen a few regulars where i play who are excelent recon scouts and know how to avoid Kharra detection easily enough.

Speaking of hiding in chambers, I saw a Gorge hide in a res node last night for the first time... almost completely invisible. Pretty funny.

As for the hive sight? If the engine thinks your view was obstructed, but some alien had LOS to the target, then they can show up yellow until you get a clear view again.

My english isn't very good, so explaining this is a bit diffucult to me, but i try:

So it is possible, that somebody spawned in eclipse and look at that res node, but didn't see that marine who were inside it. I was behind a wall and saw that yellow circle in eclipse room. I went in there and that circle were on top of that res tower for about half second and then it disappeared. After that i jumped "inside" that res tower and i killed him.

Yes i know how that parasite works (played this great game since 1.0 were released). It will disappear if i look directly to that parasited marine/building and when i go behind a wall then that circle appears back there again.

That thing i discovered now was pretty confusing and i wanted to ask you guys what it was and THANK YOU for your reply's. I do now understand what that weird parasite thing is...

I do this all the time. Plop down your res chamber, jump on top, and the marines wont see you. If the marines do come and see your res chamber, just stop building so they dont know you are there. It will definetely give you a little extra time to call in the skulks.

    Oppositely.

When I am commanding often (and I do NOT) have Motion Tracking I will see the blue circle around aliens beyond walls where none of my marines can see.

But it is nonetheless when the aliens are moving, so perhaps I can *hear* them thru the wall and the blue MT circle pops up due to that?
