How i've always delt with it.
I've never really paid any attention to the speed of the onos, but lately I've been hearing comments that its slow...
I use charge to move around on the map whn I'm an onos, It seems pretty quick to me... I use adren with the onos too, which makes the energy recharge time almost nonexistant.. not to mention that you dont need full energy to use charge so when you need to get away in a hurry...
Bart
*Edit* Doh! I ment to put this in the Khaara strat section perhaps an admin could move it there for me? thanks

super fast
As for charge stoping hurting after a coupl of seconds that is wrong.. I use it to kill buildings all the time their health just scrolls down the entire time I'm using it right till the last drop of energy.. (not many buildigs will stand up to a full charge) the hardest bit to avoid is sliding off the building while chargeing... (hint: if you use crouch while chargeing you will slide off less).. Oh and I've charged marines down at the end of my charge
And I've never noticed strafe slowing my charge down.. but then maybe I dont charage and strafe, why would I its my head that is doing the damage... (has any one got a chage kill moving backwards?)
Bart
You're doing something wrong, because you can easily run over a couple of HA marines with a single charge.
Sit in the middle of the hallway cloaked and when marines find you they will be like "omg!"
I think Adren + Regen + Cloaking = Ultimate Onos, but honestly? It's pretty darn hard to go wrong with an Onos.
That's ultimate charge onos.
Adren + Regen + Alien Wallhack = Ultimate support Onos (just need one, for primal).

Keep in mind you can simply stand on top of a building while charge is on and you will kill it just as fast.
great for clustered turrets or many buildings.
If you do not strafe, use your mouse to look left to turn a left corner for example, you will lose no speed.
The Cost effective Onos, AKA Wimpy: Redemption-Silence-Cloak (so he wont get found and hurt, but if he does he runs away to his hive)
The Ninja Onos AKA Shadow: Carapace/Regen(Mystical ninja healing/armour)-Silence-Cloak
The BattleTank AKA Walking Wall of Lame: Carapace-Adrenaline-Scent of Fear (He hunts with the best of them, takes a great beating, and dishes it out for longer)
The Self sufficient Onos AKA Lonesome: Regen-Adrenaline-Cloaking (Can handle most things solo, if gets hurt, runs off, cloaks and heals up)
The Amphetamine Onos AKA Speedy (or Triple C): Carapace-Celerity-Cloak (Rushes into bases wiping out anything it sees, replace Cloak with SoF and you have a true, Big Game hunter.)
Feel free to mess with the names, and stuff, I was just a bit bored and the names arent anything special. Anyhow, as Onos I tend to like Adrenaline-Cloak- and either Carapace or Regen (Depends on the situation, Redemption got me stuck too many times thank i liked, besides it dumps you behind the wals of lame that are hard to negotiate)
I gore all the time while charging. Gore does not interrrupt charge. Don't know for sure about PS or paralyze, but I highly doubt they interrupt a charge.
Other tips most players know by now: When charging, crouch. This helps prevent "overrunning" of a building. Walk as well, as the slower you're moving forward, the easier it is to stay "stuck" to a building.
Havanna and Liku are correct. Your strafe keys are what kill your speed as an Onos.
