Ns_nancy - For The Author

<div class="IPBDescription">Some texture problems to be fixed?</div> I'm not sure if it's my video card, the way the mapper has made the map or if it is a compiler error but in my screen ns_nancy has got many a texture error. I will show off 1 example below (Port Engine Hive ). There are 2 texture problems that if were fixed for v1.1 might make people choose the map alot more. As I'm a particularily big fan of the Array Hive in NS <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

The Subspace Array Hive has a texture problem on the floor, Vent2, going into the hive from the 'Mother Interface'. If no one else has any of these problems I will post another screenshots. So Anyone else got them?

    If texture problems made a difference as to what maps people play, killbox and iceworld wouldn't exist.

    Same here, but i give no names unless 100% sure. either way just to jog peoples memories, has anyone else got this vent2 texture (black one on floor) error in their ns_nancy? if so thats what the author should fix <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> along with the array hive walls

    here is another one i found, these just stick out, i havent noticed anything else like it in other maps.
    the infestation does not go right . . .

    KFS: Never played killbox and iceworld. but in this day and age as you know, neatness and texturing is needed. if you look at early ns_eclipse on nsworld in access corridor 1d (i think its 1d) you can see all those lovely wall_lab then a sudden teckwall which 'if' it was kept would degrade the map and that hallway

    Actually, I liked that combination of textures more than the current version. And I will remind you that iceworld is usually the #4 played map of all games, and has more players than all of NS at any given moment. Depressing, but true.

    People want gameplay. Looks are just a nice added bonus.

    Granted, I'm not debating that official maps should have issues like this fixed, but it's not going to change who plays or doesn't play the map.

    I agree I am a bit picky. I just really think if that vent2 texture was fixed on nancy for v1.1 that nancy would look alot nicer. its just the point that people never say things like that about the official maps, but when someone makes a custom map they say

    ' your textures is unaligned and 1 bit is stretched more on the x axis than the y '

    First off, what exactly of a texture problem are you experiencing? I can't tell anything from your pictures. Secondly, I totally agree with KFS. When I first started playing NS, I didn't give jack about the textures. I just thought the maps were cool. Now that I'm trying to map myself, I notice all the little wrong details. But you have to remember that 99% of players don't map, and they don't care either. Focus on gameplay, then lighting, then textures.

    i also have problems to see what you mean with your pictures.. you could make a big red mark.. because i dont see your problem

    Gee, I guess I'm not a <i>real</i> mapper then. And I guess I better not ever play that horribly textured map again either.

    Ns_Nancy is my second favourite map! If you didn't read the post above its to help the author make it LOOK nicer. Also on making it look nicer, there is really only one entrance into the subspace array hive. Maybe an extra corridor from the mother interface near the spherical area, then v1.1 ns_nancy would be an extremely <i>sweet</i> map. (Before anyone asks my favourite map is <i>ns_hera</i>.

    Erm... since when did your geographical sitiuation make any difference to spotting where a texture bug in a map is?

    and ou yes, i cannot realy see the texture bug.. perhaps the mapper want it like that... but it could also mean that im not a mapper...

    yeah, generally it looks like nancy is a patchwork, there are sections with great lighting, and texturing, and other sections where textures were used without any justification or thought given.

    Apply, Fit. Walk away.

    Sure, your right gameplay is important, and most players dont look at the dumb things mapper miss (like improper use of the grating texture in the port hive on nancy) or those dumb little light textures in the vents.

    The layout of nancy however is one of the best in my opinion, but then again I think that ns_eclipse is one of the worst.

    Asraniel: I think in the port engine hive he had no choice, but on the way into the array hive it switches from being 'normal' and going in a line, then it has the texture problem.
