Speed Stats

how fast things go
I used a program that comes with a speedometer to get these figures. Yes I noticed the other thread with the stats, but timing how far it takes to run is not very accurate and won't tell you how fast you are going in other situations.

Here we go:

Skulk
base speed 290 bhop max approx.* 480 Level 1 Celerity 317 Level 3 Celerity 366

Gorge
base 170 bhop 280 Celerity 3 245

Fade Celerity 3 315

Lerk
base 200 Celerity 3 275

Onos Celerity 3 484

How jumping affects your speed as skulk.........

Running in a straight line then jumping: 330** leap 776 Celerity 3 leap 852

Marine base ammo
base 206 bhop 350

Full ammo 201

No guns 220

Holding knife out +2 speed

Ducking 68

Shotgun full ammo 171 (-2 speed per 5 rounds carried)

Jetpack -10 speed

hmg -36 speed (-7 speed per 75 ammo)

Some things are missing, I didn't have time to check them all

*To find exact full bhop speed for each class, take the base and multiply by 1.7
** If gaining speed by bhop is an exploit, then anyone that jumps is an exploiter, its the way the game
works

Any way to play by yourself and get all the upgrades and stuff?

Absolutely. Load up a LAN game, bring up the console after it loads, and type "sv_cheats 1". This'll let you join either team, build structures (very quickly), get upgrades (again, quickly), and play as you normally would.

Type "givepoints" to give yourself 20 (or is it 15? 10?) resources each time you type it.

I'm not sure if there's a command to instantly grant upgrades, but this way works just as well.

Umm. im lost. It looks sloppy there. Jumping while a Skulk improves speed? Or you mean leaping?

Yep, jumping as any class will increase your speed. It is built into the engine.

I wouldn't say "built in" the engine, since its more like a flaw... BunnyHopping is what he is talking about btw TheGlow, a tricky thing to do by spamming jump in a certain way that gives you a speed boost. ValvE tried to remove this, cause it wasn't supposed to be there, but they couldn't. So they instead reduced the speed increase it could give, to 170% of normal speed, rather than infinite...
Interesting to know about the shotgun rounds speed, but you didn't specificate how much speed you have with an empty except for clip shotgun.
And do not start arguing about bunnyhopping with me, I dont like it, and Flayra is removing it for 1.1, but I.WILL.NOT. discuss about it anymore.

This is not true the 170% limit is defined on a per mod basis. It could be 300% 120% or plain old 100%. They kept 170% in TFC as in part they thought it was a skill worth keeping.

Ok, I know about bunny hopping, but by his mentioning of speed, looked like just jumping while moving in a straight would give a boost.

    Take it outside monkey boy.

Nice stats heathen, i'd be interested in the program you used to measure speeds. I've seen similar things for other games/mods and they are handy tools. Speeding up through simply having the knife selected surprised me. It should be said that hop speed measurements can't be particularly accurate because of the constant acceleration, then deceleration due to limiter. The only time you'll ever have the max hop speed will be for a brief instant before the engine cuts you back to base speed. Holding your speed at the maximum limit is practically impossible.

Another thing to test - simply staying on the floor but moving forward and turning while strafing in the direction of the turn, this should bring you above base speed. Then there's wallrunning....

Yeah, another thing the anti bhop crew needs to note is that simply turning while running increases your speed. There is no definite amount of increase, depends on your turn.

170% is the limit for NS right now. Whenever I reached 170% max, I was kicked back to 100%.

If I had time and webspace I could put everything into a table for easier viewing.

I'd be very interested in knowing what that program is, that speedometer would've saved me an easy hour of running back and forth that hallway. I'm glad that the means exist to get precise numbers on speed, that'd prove helpful.

Think of it this way, Kitsune, all your running gave your NS client a lot of muscles and really worked out its lungs. That'll come in handy.
