Confused about sieges

a hard match..

i was securing powersilo hive, built about 6 turrets by the res tower. a couple aliens came in, climbed up the wall, morphed to gorge, and built offense chambers on top. their offense chambers can hurt my turrets, but my turrets can't hurt them.

sieges won't work either, i guess it can't aim too high above the ground. on top of this pressure comin from the offense chambers, aliens come and rush the marines guarding silo. everytime the marines destroy an offense chamber, the gorge up there will rebuild it. i gave jp/gl to a couple marines and they died.

so yeah, we eventually lost the game. we went from 2 secure hives to zero just like that.

    While the siege thing is worthy of complaint, sounds like the larger problem was crappy marines. One GL guy should have been able to clean out that alcove.

    The powersilo upper level is stupid, I agree. I've had 1-3 lerks and gorges jumping up there building OCs and DCs and spiking everything to death many times. Getting up there with a JP when there are lerks spiking is a total pain in the a*s. The siege should have the ability to shoot almost straight up so the powersilo thing wouldn't happen...

    The siege does not have any elevation limits. The reason the siege doesn't fire is that you need to see the base of the chamber to get it to fire. Or scan it as commander - that will teach the gorge trying to build'em.

    Is that so? The same thing has been in since 1.03 and then you didn't need visual. Sieges still wouldn't fire up there: I tried many times. Have to try though to figure out if it has been changed...

    the siege has a 30 degree limitation, up or down, to where it can shoot. or thats the last i heard on the matter

    yup it has an angle limit, it can't fire stright up.     That is just dumb imo.. I believe siege effective range should be a cylinder with unlimited height.. Height restriction is just retarded.

    It already has several weakness:

    -Dependant on upgraded turrret factory
    -Needs a spotter
    -Can hurt itself
    -Costs 65

    Now this sounds quite stupid since some hives can not be protected without siege, and if the siege isn't working marines are doomed.

    SIEGE HAS NO HEIGHT RESTRICTION

    just an angle restriction which may or may not be 30 degrees

    look at the picture below. It is between cargo and mess hall on ns_nancy. The siege in the picture cannot hit the OC because the OC is outside its angle restriction, not siege range. That ladder isn't very tall.

    The siege is very good as it is. In 1.03 it was really overpowered but now that u need a spotter or scan it is almost perfectly balanced. So what if it cnan hurt itself, its not like it ever does thatyand if u are having problems with pwersilo on nothing just build a siege up on the ledge to. how hard is it?
