Any Word About The Alien Res Exploit?

Has it been nullified? Is it actually something that can be reproduced intentionally or is it a game glitch? If it is intentionally reproduceable, can you tell who is doing it in game or only from server logs? I read the 1.04 changelog and did a search for it here and didn't come up with much.

In case you haven't noticed this in action, it gives aliens massive amount of res instantly. For example:
I was playing on Tanith the other day. I was a skulk and we started in Fusion Reactor. By the time I had made it to the dual resource area I had max res. I went gorge and immeadately had max res again.

I think you had max res because all members of the team had max res. When all members have max res the hives collect them and give them to the players who use them or for the new players that join the team.

I was playing a game on server unknown (no really, I don’t know the name of it!) and one second we all were saving our rez had around 25 and heard a gloop sound and it was at max, all the aliens on the team started yelling over voice asking how they just got all the resources, even the gorge we had got maxed out, no one claimed responsibility and no one knew how it happened or had seen it before but it was not cool, we proceeded to rape the marines because partly because of it.

As my clan members and I play all day everyday and exploits tend to proliferate INSANELY fast to most ever non-moderatred server without ever having seen this "exploit", I can safely assume that the server you joined had sv_cheats enabled or some other server setting which can all be done via the halflife irc admin tool nowadays. You can even set the initial resources for each team automagically.

I can confidently tell you that is not the case. This is an MMZ run server and it only happened for the duration of one match, not even the duration of a single map. Several of the people playing started screaming "WTF who is using the res hack?", someone else went gorge and built the other 2 hives. A couple of people quit the server, most of the aliens went Fade and wiped out the marines, the map ended and all was well on the next map.

No, that's the ressource glitch. Sometimes at the beginning of new rounds aliens will get the ressources they had from the last round. And everyone is really really rich for like 10 minutes. Guess 1.04 hasn't fixed it.

no thats not how it works
there is a bug in the game that will allow aliens to have alot of res however
since nobody else has commented on it, i dont want to say too much about how it works etc either..

i havn't tested 1.04 to see if its stil there tho

1.04 u only get 1/2 the res if u leave a team , if a gorge leaves the team with max res that still gives the rest of the team alot of res , but iv never seen aliens being given full res at the start before :/

in 1.03 there was a way to use the leave-team and give gorge rps cheat with out being caught , if u bound a button to readyroom;jointeam2 when u had died then u never looked as tho u where in the rr

When you start the game as aliens, if you notice you are given 10 resources. If you leave the team or game, just like usual your 10 resources is given out to your team mates in the resource pool. But if you rejoin the aliens your are given another 10. See how this can be a problem? People have developed scripts to do this, so even with that information to be able to do it correctly you will need a script, but thats how it works. The only thing 1.04 has changed for this exploit is the rate at which it happens, when you leave the team or game half the resources is distributed to your team. So your giving them 5 each time instead of 10. Not a big improvement slows it down a bit, but if you have the 'best' script to do this, doesn't slow it down enough. Its very hard to determine who is using the script, you will know its happening if you here the 'bloop' join aliens noise over and over again, but to determine exactly who it is would need to be determined by server logs as the script does it so fast that the scoreboard can't update it.

actually, you'll join with 0 res now. Don't know how long it has been that way, but joining a match midgame will have me at 0 res on the alien team.

In 1.03, all aliens joining during the first n seconds would get 10 rp; I am not sure how large n was, but it's around a minute at most IIRC. Joining midgame wouldn't give you any free rp.

I saw this exploit yesterday. It has nothing to do with server settings.

We were midway through a game and a guy joined the game as an alien under the name cssucks. He immediately started complaining about the aliens using a resource exploit because he got all these resources immediately upon joining. Well the game had been going for some time and the aliens were stuck at one hive so obviously those resources came from the resource pool. We said as much to him and then finished the game.

Next game. I joined aliens and we were in sewers (ns-caged) as I joined I noticed that this cssucks guy was already gestating to gorge and had obviously chosen to do so the instant he joined the game. He had made a few comments in the previous game so I was a little suspicious of him and fully expected to see him dump a bunch of sensory chambers or something so I followed him. He walked around to vent through shipping tunnel, closed the door and dropped a defense tower behind it. Then he went down and built the resource tower then he walked into the hive and dropped the other resource tower and started the hive (which I actually didn't notice immediately) all in the space of about hmm... 30-45 seconds.

At that point I thought it was odd but had answered a call by one of the skulks to help out at marine base(and i hadn't actually seen him drop the second resource and hive, i just found out afterwords). On my way I noticed I had 33 resources so after I attacked the marines I went to drop a tower. As soon as I did I got all my resources back. Thats when I noticed the second hive was half done already. At this point the game has been going for MAYBE a minute or two and we already almost have our second hive plus a crapload of resource towers (plus I noticed another gorge dropping a ton of OC's and Dc's in sewer vest.)

I don't know how it works but it is a definite exploit. Before I could get him banned Cssucks left and we all f4'd and restarted. Well what do you know? He had come back with a different wonid and different name and jumped into the command chair, recylced the entire base and dropped like 3 or 4 command chairs. We knew it was him because he said "I'm back! <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>"

Anyhow. the exploit exists and can really ruin a game. If it is as someone mentioned something caused by hundreds of trips back and forth to the readyroom then I guess we are either going to have to remove the resources completely when you leave the game as was suggestd in the early 1.04 update or find another solution to prevent this sort of abuse.

btw his second wonid was 3120497 the first one i have as well but somebody else told me it and I'd hate it to be in error.

I'm pretty sure that there's a server variable that determines how long after the start of the game you can join without having to wait in line to spawn. Until this limit is reached, you can do the fast-rejoin exploit. If you're having problems with this on your server, set the variable to 0. It's harsh for slow-walking players and slightly late comers, but it's better that then ruin the game. If you suddenly max out on res, find an admin, or find another server.

As for the name of the variable, you'll have to look it up yourself. I think it's under the create game->advanced menu though, if you want a place to start.

All I can say is that

- The join-F4 exploit appears to be likely, but won't ever create as much cashflow as the old 'leave-rein' exploit due to its short nature.

- The alien resource system will be overhauled in 1.1.

Thanks Nemesis, and everyone else that understood that I was not talking joining a game in progress, and was talking about an actual exploit. I really haven't seen it too often, which is what lead me to believe it was some kind of glitch, or that it was not easy to reproduce.
