Motion Tracking Before Phase Gate?

What would you do first?? Motion Tracking right after Obs or build a phase gate (and wait for another phase gate when the team reaches the base?)

I know sometime early you want to have that motion tracking researched (DUH!).. But do you do it before res and tf/2 turrents in hive or after.

Recently in pubs, I've been going IP -> Armory -> Obs -> MT

I play on a linux server, so most of us have been playing without motion tracking, making us very effective at listening and paying attention to our environment. Now that we have motion tracking, we've almost doubled in effectiveness. After the initial build, I get an RT in a hive, get 2 phases up, then start expanding towards a second hive, capturing resources along the way and generally expanding the area of the ground that we control.

I still go for Motion Tracking before Arms Lab, because on a pub, I've found that players last longer when they can avoid Skulks before they become a threat, rather than being able to take 3 bites instead of 2.

I'm thinking my unholy love of MT might get me ejected in the near future.

I finally got to comm a game a few days ago, and first thing I was told was "Tech Rush Inex".

Now, I've commed a grand total of 3 times in the last 2 months. When I do get to play, I either join the marines mid-game (rare) or random to Kharaa. So basically I had no idea what he was talking about. (I did come back here afterwards to find out what a tech rush was) So, standard "Inex's upgraded marine wall of Destruction and Gnashing of Teeth" strategy I put up an Obs. I get told that Phase rushes don't work anymore, and I should be going for a Tech rush.

I would have told him that when I Comm, I don't rush Tech, Phase or otherwise (just not my style ) and I had it up to get MT, but my GF desired my attention at that moment, so I had to go.

I think it's still smart to do a PG "rush" to one hive, but don't try a 2 hive lockdown with PGs. Securing one hive seems to be enough in 1.04, because you don't have to be so paranoid about fades anymore with upgrades. After getting about 3 RTs, I usually ask the commander to research MT. It actually works on Linux servers too so it's REALLY helpful. After all, if you don't secure a hivesite (usually a PG needed), you might not be able to take it afterwards when skulks have cara and lerks arrive and then your in big trouble...

Motion Tracking first. It helps keep the marines alive, and more importantly, it gives the commander much more information on the map. Since hearing sounds out of range of any marines is a bug that Flayra's working to fix, you can't count on listening for hives or Gorges to figure out what's going on. So just fire up that observatory and you'll be able to see what those wacky Kharaa are up to.

Oh, and one other thing, with one-chamber cloaking being so good now, MT becomes essential for dealing with aliens who take sensory first thing. Spotting cloaked aliens in 1.04 is nigh on impossible, so your only hope is to see where they move to before they cloak. You could always fire blindly into corners and hope for the green blood, but that's far from an ideal method.

Yeah you going to need motion tracking in the beginning if the kharaa first make sensory chambers in the beginning. Otherwise your going to lose alot of people and resource towers early on.

I thought Sensory first is probably the stupidest thing kharaa can possibily do.. Movement first might not be THAT bad cuz you get early celerity... D Chamber first is usually your best bet

It is people like you who ruin the argument of defense chambers being the best.
First of all, spend a little time thinking out what you are going to post. Do not just post in a rash haste when you see something you do not like. Hell, I would like to reach out and slap Geronimo for almost all of his pointless (IMO) posts. Thing is, I do not do anything with my emotions, I leave them in the background in all but extreme cases. Second, your reasoning makes no sense. MT helping more vs sensory compared to movment? Motion tracking lets marines see moving aliens. Cloaking aliens move MUCH less than movement aliens. Why even get movement chambers if you are just going to hide from MT anyway? Might as well just be a normal skulk. To win, you have to attempt to gain the fullest benefit of any upgrade path your team chooses.

Motion tracking is the only MArine-COunter against Cloak.
Cloak is the only Alien-Counter against Motion Tracking.

This is weird, but also true!

If you get MT, you can see that the alien which you just saw and heard is cloked at the last blue movement circle. Go there and kill it with caution.

If you have Cloak, you can make it difficult for the MArine to kill you, as he must first see you to start firing.

An ALien without cloak would be much faster dead.

At start MT helps your team at least KNOW that in a few seconds, 3 skulls will get past that corner.
For me as a normal player, it surely makes a big difference!

Having just played two games with sensory first as alien, I found it to be just as expected - decent in the first five minutes of the game, then completly useless as MT makes it impossible to ambush marines anyhow. Once we had two hives, sensory was TRULY painful, as the lerks and fades were just shadows of their adrenaline selves. We had to fight for about an hour before we managed to take down the marine third hive, get adrenaline and then take out their base.

Fortunately, they had generator hive and base only, so they didn't have the res to fight us off.

Sensory definately needs an upgrade that works in the midgame. SoF doesn't cut it.

Bw, try MT + shotgun. I racked up about 7-8 kills in a row taking out skulks coming around a corner.

MT is THE most powerful upgrade in the game - far better then the next best (armor 1). And incredibly cheap as well (after all, you need the observatory for PG anyhow, so its just 45 res for MT).
