Can I make basic level models, coffee mugs, chairs, items with Lightwave and then export as Studio max and give em to anyone to skin for their enjoyment in HL/NS maps since I have no clue on model setup for HL mapping? In other words I'm crap with skinning but want to make models for people to do whatever with. Just the basic geometry and people can skin them however and make them usable for their maps.

if you give people the .3ds then they can compile into hl models (if I understood your question properly)

Both MAX and Milkshape (the two that are most widely used, I think) can import many different formats, so sure go ahead and make anything you might want to - I'm certain any map models you make will be much appreciated.

defenetly YES! currently there are not too many available and this feature of the HL engine is really underused in my opinion. Just keep em low poly and still good looking. There are many things that would be nice, starting from cups to helmets, tools whathaveyou. little stuff that add ambience to an environment. Big stuff is a problem tough since the models don´t cast shadows (yet... with all the changes valve has made to the HL engine i would not be surprised if this would come along)

But thye must be made from triangles right. they can't be Quad polys. Bleah I think I already answered my own question.

Oh Ganja, isn't it funny how in school we are taught this concept, to not be afraid to ask questions, yet we are because we fear the humiliation?

    1 Triangle = 1 Polygon (usually)

several triangles equal one poly if i am not mistaken, but since i now nothing about moddeling i could be wrong
