Hive Sight Problem

My system is a MSI GF4 mx 440
dual celeron 500
224 megs of ram
Win XP (no service packs)
I am having this problem as an alien where hive sight doesn't work well. If something is far away I can't see the undulating blobs. If something is under attack I don't see the red blob either. If I point at space and look around I see text pop up but the blobs seem like they only show up at a very close distance. If I use scent of fear those blobs work most the time. I still need to try updating my video driver, but it seemed like it used to work at some point.
other notes. I am running at 800x600 at regular video options. I don't remember changing anything else. If you might have a suggestion please let me know.
