Online Communities (aliens Online)
<div class="IPBDescription">Ah, the good old days</div> Hey
I was wondering if anyone else used to play 'Aliens Online' on gamestorm? Since then, I've been searching for a replacement, but have found nothing even close to the experience. Both AvP games didn't have the tension or the horror of being the last marine alive, with 15+ player controlled aliens homing in on you. Or the fun of, you know, camping <ahem>.
... but, I've realised I've been fooling myself a little, and that the best thing about the game was the community. The player base was very small (I think the servers rarely saw more than 150 people online at any time. Though each game could have 30+ players in it). Thus, the forum and in game community was very close. You could log in, and play alongside 'famous' names, like 'Preacher', 'Eggert', etc. There were small well organised squads. The game was always only half-finished, but it still was great fun <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I really like ns, but I find the number of servers overwhelming, many players offensive.... the ingame server list has always been too cumbersome, and I seem to have endless problems with gamespy 3d. Most people seem to get around these problems by joining squads (clans is just the wrong word!), and playing on specific servers with the same people? In the end, these multiplayer games seem to easily become repetitive, and seem very pointless, unless you have a good community to interact with.
