Its one that most people on this forum won't make unless they have a certain strat in mind.
Build phase gates asap
The probability of securing a location with a phase is about twice(at least) that of a TF. And alot cheaper. I don't mind wasting 20/25 res on a 50% phase gamble.
I was just playing on a game where the comm didn't make them for a long time. We lost. Sure they were good aliens but it would have been closer with phases earlier.
Another thing. The first 5min really decides the game unless something big happens. I was comming a game against good aliens(I was marine later and got pwned also), they really kept owning the marines with skulks. In fact a 4 skulk rush wiped out all the marines! luckily I made two IP's but after that I decided that a TF was necessary at base. I prefer not to use them but I did. (btw we lost) I suppose my advice is:
Just because you never usually do something don't write if off
Just like to add to the T.L.C rule. sparked something. I would just like to say that it works both ways, more so on pubs. If your marines a whinning because there asking for something and your busy in a full on attack on your marines somewhere else, I would suggest to bare with the comm and guard the place well. Dont keep whinning because it doesnt accomplish anything. So look after your comm 2. Make sure u r clear with your questions as it can be hard to hear when under attack and also when your mic is cutting up.lol. The ammount of times on pubs where i couldnt understand my marines. It is very frustrating for both.
DON"T KNOW THAT JUMP KEY CAN GET YOU TO THE WARNING MESSAGE!
That's the worst mistake a comm can possibilty make..
I go comm alot and I have no voice comm.. But generally speaking I believe I do a pretty good job (well.. I think) cuz I won quite a lot of games when I comm (and my marine usually find me extremely responsive to their calls thx to my Warcraft 3 skills)
Also TF first in base isn't such a bad idea if you see a consistent pattern of skulk rushing. But generally speaking.. you obvoiusly want Obs and phase gate up first and ask your marines to search for the first hive.. But if you decide to leave your base open and beef up hive security first.. Make sure you save some res for Motion Tracking first..
DO NOT EVER!! Tell your all your marines to hunt for 2nd hive (unless you already have a marine in proper position for phase gate), unless you have Motion Tracking upgrade.. Cuz usually the case is that while your marine are walking to that hive and your base got skulk rushed.. You couldn't see it coming cuz you have no motion tracking.. Generally speaking once I secure 1 Hive I start pumping motion tracking and weapon upgrades. Just have 1-2 marines hunt for res and potential phase points to hive is fine
1st Time : the moment I jumped in I was suddenly back in StarCraft Mode and dropped 6 things at the same time around screaming marines as the rushed for cover. [transcipt of first 4 seconds of the game as marines began to spawn] 1st second ... (everyone) OH 2nd second.. (everyone) MY 3rd second... (everyone) GOD 4th second... (everyone) why is there ANOTHER COMMANDER CHAIR NEXT TO THE FIRST ONE ?
Well my 2nd time as Comm. I had taken over midgame and it so happened that the field leader of the marines was just coming out of IP well at the same time I had just selected build Arms Factory and by the time I dropped it he had walked 3 steps out of the IP North right under the Arms :X Unfortunately across the Radio you hear (Team Leader1) : Oh Great. (everyone else) : what? what! (Team Leader1): Skipper just built a Arms on me.

We had 2 hive secured with phase gates and 4-5 turrents each. Somehow the aliens mannaged to kill off all the rines, take both hives back, and win...
This is just the stupidest thing any comm can do, let the res accumulate, there are always upgrades/weapons to buy
NO WEAPON/ARMOR UPGRADE!!
DON"T KNOW HOW TO USE DISTRESS CALL!!
