<div class="IPBDescription">OMG I R LOSING!!! F4! F4! F4! F4! F4!</div> Side: Kharaa
Map: Tanith
Situation: Marines secured 2 hives, Waste handling and Sat Comm
Chambers: Defense (Hush...)

I joined this game, oh I dunno... 15min into the round I suppose. The Kharaa were down 2 players so off I went, a lot of the players were saying it was over and we had already lost. However, not a single Kharaa alien abandoned the team. Slowly we took back Sat Comm (Poor positioning of the TF by the Commander) got our 2 Hive abilities and went about getting Waste back. It was around this time that about 2 of the marines hit the F4 button and went to the readyroom, and by doing so the marines were 1 player down (6-7)

A few fades attacked Waste, I gorged outside built some DCs and the attack was going smoothly. The siege and PG got taken down, after healing the fades back up down went the TF and I started saving for the last hive. Around the 60 res mark I hear the end round music play and viola, back in the readyroom. The marines abandoned the game.

If you are going to PLAY Natural Selection at least show some balls and stick it out to the end. What would have happened if the Kharaa abandoned when the marines had 2 hives?! They would have been sieged to death inside the hive, but no. They fought back with skulks, lerks and gorges and won the round (Even if wins like this are hollow...)
Comeback games are some of my more memorable during the time I have played NS and more than 50% of them have been ruined by people pressing the F4 button and abandoning their teammates. I don't think the system needs to be changed, I just think people need to show some common courtesy to their fellow gamers and play the rounds out properly. If winning is all you think about, you don't deserve to play Natural Selection.

I'm sure a lot of you feel the same way...

    Shhh... don't tell anybody.

I do want to add something... I love how Infinitum lists the chamber "Carapace" and not "Defense"

Strange though, I run into the problem with the game, where the other team doesn't ever make an attempt to end the game(or takes a very long time to do it), and just kills the losing team over and over, yet some people don't quit, and its just 30 minutes of respawning and dieing.

I've never abandoned a game, save a couple times when real life demanded attention. Of course, there've been plenty of tight spots where I didn't need to abandon the game, enough of my team jumped ship that it just ended without my being involved. I agree, it's a very unsportsmanlike act.

There are a couple of cases I'll abandon the game. First if the other team is simply toying with us. Second, if my team is full of absolute idiots.

The worst case I've seen was when I was on Marines. About 2 minutes in, a volley of WTF's came from the aliens, followed shortly by a mass drop-out. It turned out that the gorge had built sensory, which lead to the aliens becoming convinced that they'd already lost. This came despite the fact that a cloaked skulk took down me and two other guys in an ambush. Ho hum.

I will F4, but only if victory is well out of reach (e.g. Marines have 2 hives with enough turrets to kill a team of Onos, let alone skulks), and the other team are taking their sweet time about finishing us off.

Riding the waves like a sailor. Every game has its ups and downs, you'll have your sunshine teammates and your tooth-and-nail-grit players. Sticking to the end - the following may not be politically correct- but that's what a man's supposed to do.

Some people don't like to struggle.
Not to mention that Fades are mostly regarded as game ending units in 1.03

Actually, scratch that, I DID bail on a game once. I joined, only to find out that the alien team was fighting amongst itself over voice comm. I sat and listened to a few seconds of the name-calling, decided that the whole thing would be a big waste of my time, and left.

    Yeah, I hate that too.

I was playing marine once and we heard a fade. Four or five of my teammates typed "***, they've got fades PRESS f4!". People seem to think that two alien hives means instant doom for marines.

    Utter bastages.

So one is allowed to leave if ones teammates are a bunch of idiots? If a marine team loses 2 secured hives then they probably qualify as such... so in other words it was nothing wrong with the fact that they all quit.

I often quit, cause I get fed up with dieng non-stop. It's not unrealistic either, perhaps the marines rather take collective suicide than get eaten up by aliens.

Not to mention it's easier to make a comeback as aliens, hivesight pretty much ensures that all aliens pounce on you the second you attack anywhere.

If a marine team can't avoid losing 2 secured hives they are in no shape to make any comeback, so one might as well quit.

It's a public server, people play there only to have fun. Yes i know they ruin the fun for the other team, but mind sometimes the opposing team just camps the spawn to get easy kills. Sometimes they are just too dumb/slow to finish you off.

Forfeits happen. Some people find it too frustrating to play when they either feel they're going to lose or are actually in the process of losing. Players also bail when a team is clearly full of idiots (can't blame them there), if they are lagging, or if something interrupts them in real life.

Yeah, i'm playing on finnish server (thats where i'm from..) about 1 of 20 games is F4ed, not very much though. It just happens with whatever reasons. Well i dont know what to say.. but if there is a small change for changing the game around go for it. There is always something you can do.

    ALRIGHT HERES THE DEAL!!!!

ALL PPLS WHO PRESS F4 WHEN THEY "THINK" THEY HAVE LOST ARE....

    **** CS LAMERS!!!!!

    THATS RIGHT.

remember the days of CS when there was that one person who couldn't get a kill but managed to die 25 times?? Well, this same person is now infecting the world of NS and these people are giving up without a fight. they're the ones who spam "It's over PRESS F4...." Thats right.

so remember if you're one of those idiots who does this, you're just like one of those **** cs lamers.

So go back to CS and sit at the bottom of the ladder where you belong...

You sore losers you, bloody **** CS LAMERS!!!!!!

    GRR

Dont you hate people who do that sort of crap?

I mean you've got an onos and you wanna take it for a spin but then one marine spams "Press F4" and I don't get to do anything.

LEMME TELL YOU **** CS LAMERS!!!

I was playing a game and i was a marine, Onos's came in by the tonne and we thought we were gonners, little to my knowledge at this stage was that the first hive was unguarded and undefended. We set up a Seige and took it out, then the second hive, then the third and we won!!

SO ALL YOU **** CS LAMERS!!! DONT PRESS F4 AND DESTROY THE CHANCE FOR A GLORIOUS COMEBACK

    HAVE HOPE ALWAYS!!!

Seems like this kinda crap happens a lot more often now than when I first started playing NS(ok, so that was back in like, December or November, so what, point is...). I've done it a few times myself, although generally I only pull the plug once we're clearly in doomsday mode and/or I'm on a team that cannot fight itself out of a paper bag or cannot tell it's own arse from a bullet hole. If there's still even an outside chance I'll fight it out.

Case in point, earlier today I was on kharaa and our team was doing ROTTEN, I mean, we were barely pulling together resources, we had a newbie gorge building OCs around our hive, and we were almost all getting killed trying to defend our useful gorge(usually he died too). We're still working on getting resources together for a 2nd hive when marines start popping up with HAs...LOTS of HAs. Also almost all of them had welders, so the couple bites we'd get on them just weren't cutting it. We lost our attempted 2nd hive to sieges, and everyone figured it was over for us. About this time a large group of us skulks clustered up and stormed their(minimally defended) base, and overran it. Of course they got a CC and new spawn portals up at another base, so I went into a vent near it and did a regen + lerk combo to harass them. Between near constant, suicidal assaults on their siege bases, plus me pinning down 2-5 guys in their base at any one time trying to kill me, plus the fact that for all those HAs they NEVER got HMGs, we were able to rally back from having our starting hive attacked and nearly destroyed to finally getting a 2nd hive open for the making. About 3 minutes later we had fades storming their base, and all the sudden about 4 marines quit, the game goes to 9 on 4, and it's over.

I don't fully know why we were able to survive, rally, and win, but fact is that 4/5ths of that game we were fighting to keep from having our last hive attacked, and right up until we got that 2nd hive the game was completely in doubt. If me or a few other kharaa players had folded like the marines did, we never would have had our shot to pull off such a huge rally and make off like we were some kinda heroes...So if your team is taking a beating and defeat is very possible but not TOTALLY certain, stick with it, there's still a chance to turn it around and be heroes!
