An Anti-siege Strategy

this worked today...couldnt belive it
Ok...was playing a game on ns_nothing, had to go marines (doh) cuz aliens had more people. But anyway, we had our base up in The Great Viaduct, and we had a siege cannon in a place where it could destroy the hive in Power Silo if they tried to build it. We didn't actually HAVE power silo, but the siege had it covered. But the aliens tried this tactic and oh man i cannot believe it worked. They started building in range of the siege in viaduct. IN RANGE. They kept building and building to no end. We had no clue wtf they were doing until comm realized it. They distracted the siege away from the hive long enough for it to build. Their entire team went fade before the hive got blown away and we ended up losing cause we couldnt kill all the fades. I couldn't believe they pulled it off, but if youve got a gorge that knows how to build and run away really fast, you can build random chambers to distract siege cannons away from more important areas. Try it sometime...it'll probably be difficult but if you pull it off you get...

FADE OF THE WEEK!

You need alot of res though. Every time you drop them they will die. Good idea though.

jees that would be hard to pull off.
    strange how he didnt die?

Just gotta time it right, full caraprice gorge can generally survive one siege splash so long as he's not humping the building, then you just time your chamber places to drop them between the siege blasts.

That is one nice tactic, he must have been doing it for 2 minutes and longer ...lots of res. GJ Kharaa!. I'm going to try it too next time. But hey, i have to say this now. On every map, i have seen that marines build the sieges in the same place, denying that place from them buys time for your team.

I seen this trick done before(same idea, but we also managed a suicide skulk rush to kill the siege partway through hive construction), and it's just insane when it works properly, especially if marines aren't watching what's happening very closely. Definitely a resource hog though, and if marines get wind of it they'll go after your gorge like no other. All in all, a pretty sly trick to attempt when circumstances fit and your options are limited, just don't pin all your hopes on pulling it off unless you have to.

It will be interesting to see how this changes in 1.04--Sieges will be non-automatic, and the commander will need to ping an area before they fire--or a marine must be a spotter.

Yup, i have tried to do that once. I dont remember the map name, but there are ventilation, sewer and generator hives. They have builded one siege up there near ventilation and i put the hive up and then started to build off chambers in front of it. It almost worked, hive was 90% finished, but then marines builded another siege and it was inpossible to hold two sieges with one gorge.

Good tactic thought, maybe two gorges building stuff to keep siege from shooting hive could work better...

/me beats OWA with a trout

great strategy, but if the marines werent paying attention at powersilo, a single lerk could have destroyed their base there

I did that yesterday, and we came back against HA/HMG marines and finally won the game due to great teamwork (thanks Dr Bob, Belinni, Matt )

    It doesn't work in 1.04.

They can just scan far away from your buildings but near to the hive, and guess what the siege cannon will shoot?

OTOH, in 1.04, the aliens can just stealth-build the hive instead, so you need defenses with LOS to the hive spot.

1.04 will be interesting. You can do things like building DC's out of LOS, then try to attack hard enough to keep the marines from realizing you are healing up... Waste handling on tanith is a nice spot for this, one of the entrances is covered.

Or you can do the drop OC on top of siege and back of thing .. if you can drop enough, the siege destroys itself. In some places, you can evolve to gorge on a ledge, then just drop OC's on top of the siege and have a blast. Hmm... 350pts damage, double vs buildings. Point blank blast may do 700 pts vs the siege then. 5 blasts and the siege is a goner.

I've seen that happen too in some games, where the seige is so close to the chambers its trying to destroy that it ends up destroying the turrets around it and itself.

in some cases, the aliens have built hives RIGHT ABOVE a tfac/PG and turrs. i'm not sure about siege, but normal turrs will only shoot a FULLY DEVELOPED HIVE. good argument for having a flex/handyman/etc player.

Urza, I should get Mishra to knock the fcuk out of you o_o They didn't have a base up at power silo, they just had a siege cannon in a place where if they tried to build the hive it would get killed. There was no actual base there.

ah well, they had 6 t's, 1 siege, a tf, a pg. Sounds like a base to me :o.
