Testing Out Models

Is there any way to test out how a model looks in-game without having to wait for that specific model to become available (e.g. a heavy armor guy). And i'm not just talking about using the Halflife model viewer... because I also need to see how the weapons look when a heavy armor guy is carrying them.

Any help here?

    I've been wondering that too. The only (partial) solution I've found is usig any new weapon as an lmg (ie just call it v_mg, p_mg, whatever), instead of waiting for one to be bought for you. I have no idea how you'd get HA people showing up though, unless HA and LA models are interchangeable in which case you'd put the HA you want to test in the soldier folder, and call it "soldier". (sure I don't need to give you so many details Daphisto <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> )

    On a related note, is there a program that lets you test sprites out-of-game? Something that overlays it onto an image of your choice, so you can test you've got it blending properly, perhaps?

    if you just need the position there is always the "attackments" checkbox, but if you need the actual look of it than I dunno other than the waiting game, unless you wanna start interchanging models...

    my way of "fixing this problem" is quite simple:

    start a LAN game (you'll need the RC bot 4 NS).

    set server to "sv_cheats 1" (so you don't have to wait long so <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) and later type "bigdig" and "hightech". than a few times "givepoints".

    now build up your base and research HA. now lay some weapons on your ground. get out of the CC near the armory and add some marine bots. when they get IG use your menu and say "follow me" (<b>normally</b> they should follow you now <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )

    after that, let one of them walk over a HA so that the bot picks it up. do the same with the weapon you want to see IG.

    what i do is name the model v_9mmar and put it in my valve/models folder, start a lan game get a 9mmar and see the positioning

    I think he wanted to see how the p_model looks when carried by a player with HA.

    i know, i did this to test out a conversion i tried, i just made my own game on ns, an activated cheats, for getting lots of res. and bought the stuff, and well, thats it
