Heh, I Was Watching A Tv Show...

When I heard the sound of a comm droppin
It was a downloaded anime show (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex). I skipped back, just to be sure of what I had heard. Sure enough, while watching, an armored vehicle detaches from the bottom of a helicopter, and it is 100% the sound of a comm dropping a structure or ammo, hehehe.

Always funny to see sound effects get re-used

You do realize that it is NS that has used their effect("their", well not really), not the other way around, right?

Im curious where they got all there sounds from, but that may not be possible because sampling tv shows is illegal? dont need NS being shutdown because of stupid stuff, im not sure. but, how could they stop NS besides stoping development.......

Actually, no. They used the same effect, nobody copied the other. You people don't give the devs enough credit in some places. The devs purchased (With their own money) sound libraries for most, if not all of their sounds. I guess that Ghost in the Shell used the same sound from the same public domain sound library, nobody copied the other, it's just a coincidence. That's all there is to it. Sorry, no thievery or mysteries to solve. I apologize for ruining all your sleuthy fun.

don't think they ment to offend. anyway, even IF they had "borrowed" it, I wouldn't mind. Why not? Just a free mod, so unless ns is going retail it wouldn't be a problem.
    sound library sounds logical btw

There is one sound file of a laughting kid, it is used in many Series and commercials.
I just saw the red "danger" sign with white BG (wich is used as Wad) in a TV movie.

Who did the voices? They seem a little specialized to be part of a library.

Probably the devs, who could have taken a communicating noise out of a sound library and put it over to sound like the marine is speaking through a communicator.

Sounds get reused all the time, though only the devs know how they acquired them for NS.
One of the door sounds in NS is used on SeaLab 2020.

In Doom1 the sound of those pink pig monsters dying is reused.
The sound of some guy screaming is used a lot. Once you hear it, you'll know.

    Reused sound effects are everywhere

Developers can save a lot of money by just buying the sound effects they need, rather than setting up a studio with ideal situations for each sound to be recorded. Why not buy a CD chock full of sound effects when the alternative requires a studio, props to produce the effects, equipment to tweak and mix, and employees to operate everything?

Love the voices in the game, though. I'm glad those are all original

Sounds do get reused a lot. I must have heard the same bear roar in at least three cheap adventure/action series for children. You know stuff like Tarzan and Hercules. I'm pretty sure the same roar was also used for a monster in Diablo 1. I just can't remember which monster it was.

heh, guys, I'm totally aware of the fact that sounds are re-used all over the place. I was posting more to mention "I found another sound", more than anything. That episode came out this month, NS has been using the sound for a much longer time (and I'm sure it's been used other places)

NS does use some sounds that you will hear in other places; they are, as has been said, public domain sounds or from purchased sound libraries. However, they *also* made a lot of their own sounds, either by altering those or creating new ones altogether.

The Comm Chair and Hive voice were both done by a professional voice actress hired by Flayra. You might recognize her as the voice of a character in Diablo 1 (I forget her name in-game, but her opening line was "I sense a soul in search of answers."), as well as the voice of the Terran Dropship in Starcraft. (: Yes, same woman. I don't know who he had do the marine voices.

Thats cool, never knew this. If they ever need any new Marine voices, there would be lots of guys running around here. I'll even ask my sis to act for the comm chair
