problem with server...
Ok I just recently created a server and filled up really quickly to 16 player max and we play for a while then suddenly when there's a map change everyone leaves. I can see the server is still up and online but when I try to reconnect it says that there's a problem: client.dll differs or some mumbo like that I don't understand I've checked all the cfg's and stuff everything looks fine and I followed the procedures exactly to those in the tutorial on getting a linux server up. I don't understand my troubles I have the latest updates for red hat linux installed. Could someone please tell me what's going on? :\ Thanks

    Did the map rotate on it's own or did you issue an rcon command to changemap? One rcon command changelevel or changemap will drop all clients when changing the map one won't, I don't remember which. (I think it's changemap, anyone?)

    What's your server IP, that would help

    map <ns_x>
    changelevel <ns_x>

    Those are the two commands, (never seen "changemap" but may be same). Map will drop all clients on map change, changelevel will just change.

    No the server changed the map itself and dropped all the players. There was some error like "your .dll [cl_dlls\client.dll] differs from the server's". when you'd try to reconnect. When I restart the server it works fine again but only until another map change when it all happens over again. I don't understand why it thinks the client.dll is different after a map change

    You have this running on a Linux box and you play from a separate Windows Machine, right?

    Just trying to cover some bases here...Do you have cs retail or Half-Life? Are they updated?

    the problem's not just with me but everyone seems to receive the same error message. Thus I must lay the fault with my linux server... but it's fully updated and installed so i'm not sure what's causing it

    Yea I'm running HLDS 3.1.1.0 but thanks anyways. You see people can join no problem everything's updated and works it's just sometimes when the map changes people get dropped and when they try to reconnect they get this error that the client.dll is different from the one on their machine. I don't understand could anyone please shed some light

    Can you give me the IP address? I've asked for it but you still haven't posted it yet. If I can connect to it and you can change the map maybe the error will reproduce itself.

    I think he's running Linux, I don't think throwing the client.dll over to the box will make a difference. Anyhow, I looked at the client.dll file in the NS folder on my server and it shows as:

    -r--r--r-- 1 hldsserver hldsserver 1880064 Oct 28 15:45 client.dll

    Also the client.dll in the valve folder shows as:

    -rw-r--r-- 1 hldsserver hldsserver 552960 Jun 11 2002 client.dll

    Do those match with yours?

    $ ls -l cl_dlls/
    -rwxr-xr-- 1 halflife nobody 1880064 Oct 28 14:45 client.dll

    $ ls -l dlls/
    -rwxr-xr-- 1 halflife nobody 4685948 Nov 26 16:44 ns_i386.so

    $ md5sum cl_dlls/client.dll

    Just as another point of reference is all.
