Just A Ready Room... Err Platform

<div class="IPBDescription">maybe the start of something..</div> This is what happens when old ideas come back to haunt you.
You open up Hammer, and start putting down brushes like a madman.

This is what came out.

A platform, high up in the air serves as a dropship landing port.
I still have to model the dropship mind you.

2 elevators for each team and a small extension to the platform (see middle, bottom of first picture) with a big **** antenna that it too needs to be modeled. I'll get to the dropship later but im thinking of something along the lines of the animated series "Starship Trooper: Roughnecks" kinda dropship.

Anyhow, when you approach an elevator, the door opens, and the elevator comes up . Few seconds later, it drops down really fast, fading into pitch black and you respawn to the team you choose.

Simple, fast and effective. Not to mention cool. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    the alien's elevator shaft is infested.

    Very sweet. Reminds me of Hera's outside area (bet you were waiting for someone to say that, eh? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->). Make sure not to make it take too long for the elevators to work, as this could get frustrating, no matter how cool. Yes, you should definitely make the two sides look more different.

    And where's Join Random? Can I just not see it?

    The door slides open, and the elevator slowly comes up.

    By the way, if you happen to fall down, you're automaticaly sent into observer mode.
    F4 spawns you back in.

    If you ever enter observer mode, you have to reconnect to the server to join a team, to prevent checking the other team's base in observer and then joining a team. A teleport back up to the top would work much better.

    yeah it's based of hera, but i though of it months before. Even made a topic about it in the old forums.

    The elevator goes up slowly, but goes down pretty fast. Fast enough to fade to black.. that effect i still gotta perfect. Func_illusionnaries when set to additive, i kinda forgot that it turns the BLACK into transparent! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> no wonder it didn't work! hehe guess ill have to do it with texture.

    No join random at the moment. Might make falling down the platform do it instead of observer mode.

    I never had to reconnect before when going observer!
    I always go observer before i go into a game, then check out which team is winning, and join them! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    What happens to tons of (marine) players when one team is full?
    Do they get lifted back up?
    wouldnt this look ugly waiting in a pitch black elevator shaft?

    The trigger to join a team is in the middle of the shaft!
    At the bottom, there is a teleport to send you back up onto the platform!

    No more waiting in the pit like Ns_hera's ready room! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Nicely done. Puts my ready room to shame.

    Hey just a quick question. How were you able to get the "Join Brushes" so opaque?

    I made my a function wall and made it transparent but you can still see the black background of the texture.

    How did you do it?

    Very close to my idea which is funny that several people can have the same idea. My marine start point is inside a small craft on a landing pad.

    I'll get some shots - maybe you can use some of it and/or vice versa.

    Make them func_illusionnaries instead.
    change their mode to ADDITIVE and the set the FX amount to 255

    That does look really good (although I don't know if the white lights are strong enough, the red just overpowers everything), but are you sure there's enough room to fit 32 newly spawned people on that platform? It really doesn't look like it to me <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    yeah i know the red from the light_env is pretty strong.. but thats to match the skybox.
    Beleive me, it's big enough. Even when i finish the dropship model, it's gonna be big enough.

    At the moment, no.
    As i said, it was a kind of a "spur of the moment" type thing.

    But you never know!

    is it just me, or is there no Random Team on that readyroom? Bad bad! Lotsa people use that mind you :P

    also, I don't think you should have a long elevator ride down for the marines or aliens to join.. that may be nice the first or 2nd tiem you see it, but it gets boring REALLY fast...

    When you jump out of the platform, you go random team.

    And again, the evelator ride is FAST. Only takes about 2 seconds before it hits the trigger that makes you respawn.

    If you don't respawn, you go down to the bottom of the elevator shaft then you are teleported back up onto the platform. So you can feel free to jump into the shaft until you spawn in the team you want. Same for random team.

    Those "bendy lights" Are there to illuminate the ship. Nothing more.
    But i did rotate them on 2 axis to make them point towards the middle which causes the brushes to split... nasty stuff. I may redo them.

    Oh an im keeping the skybox.
    Gives the RR a good feel.

    I also finished the elevator shaft so it fades into black.
    Also, when you reach the bottom and there is someone on the platform, you go back up.

    Changed the light towers (Less good looking then the old ones, but these didn't give me any problems! hehe )
    I'm trying to figure out the dam ned particle system to create steam out of those pipes. So far, nothing appears! lol Oh well..
