Player model size

<div class="IPBDescription">Model doesn't match with bounding box</div>Is it possible to lower the marine model a bit when he's crouched? His visual height, when crouched, doesn't match with the bounding box for when he's crouched. Currently his head and shoulders are clipping through the ceiling of vents that are small enough for his bounding box to move through.

I'd suggest lowering him down such that his calves are almost touching his thighs when he crawls, in order to lose the needed height.

For exact measurements, the bounding box is 72 units high when standing, and 36 units high when crouched. So the marine model has to be half as high when crouched, and currently it's about 48 units high or so.

I had a screenshot of the marine (In thirdperson mode) trying to hide under a desk which had 40 units of clearance, and his head was visibly clipping through the desktop, but I lost the screenie somewhere.

Interesting.  There's quite a bit to do with the player models still, so this doesn't surprise me.  I'll try to remember to get this right, I'm sure you'll let me know if this slips through. :)

I will holler and scream at you during a playtest, so yes I will let you know. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

I was crouched in front of a 32 unit high railing, and I couldn't see over it. Then I switched to thirdperson and it showed that my head was easily clearing the top of the railing.

Marine: "Heh, he can't see me, I'm hiding"
    Alien: "I see you" *SPIT*
    *HEADSHOT*
    Marine: "WTF!?@&@# asdfhsgjashdfkhkdf!!!!!!!!"

hmmm, maybe you could make it so that instead of more messing around with the model, maybe mess around with the bounding box, and make it so that the marines can't fit into 32 unit high vents, solving the problem of alien-only vents...   just a random thought tho, mabe for V2, eh?

There can be only 3 hull sizes in Half-Life. They are:
    1. Crouching Marine/Level 1 Alien
    2. Standing Marine/Level 2-4 Alien/Crouched Level 5
    3. Standing Level 5 alien

So you can't alter the crouch height of the marine without changing the normal height of the level 1.

Wow interesting info...scince were on the subject...well kinda. What are all the "distances" in the game.
Like Standing\crouching height for the different characters.
Jumping hieghts(bottom of feet/top of head) and crouch jump.
Max Jump distance for different characters.
Rocket pack height/distance/time limit for rocket pack.
alien spit distance or turret sensory range. or any other usefull stuff like that. Alot of this may actually be in the mapping docs, I will double check. Mappers could do some sneaky stuff with this info, like have things juuust out of reach. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

The valve-erc site (I don't know the url) has information on distances - things like max horizontal leap, tallest vertical height that doesn't require jumping, max jump/crouch-jump height, smallest vent size, smallest horizontal width to allow passage, etc.  I don't know whether the marine follows standard HL physics or if the NS team has tweaked him, though.  Anyone have a link/more info?

I think that levels 2 and 3 (the builder and the flier) are both actually the small size, like the level 1.

    I'm wondering how they're going to make a war-horse sized thing get shorter (head-to-rear-wise) when it crouches <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

maybe it can sorta "suck" the bone from the shoulder to the elbow into itself, making it's legs/arms/whatever half as long...    eeew.... i just thought about what that would look like...  <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

I didn't think tiny was able to crouch at all. Itw ould be kinda dumb having somthing the size of a small elephant crouching to fit through doorways.

i had a text file of those things (this is getting kinda mapping forumish though) here we go:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><b>Quote</b> </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"><!--QuoteEBegin-->Height 73 Units
This is the minimum inside distance between the floor and the
ceiling that he can still walk in standing.

    Width and Depth 33 Units
This is the minimum Distance that he can fall into or walk between,
both length wise and width wise. Note: It is very difficult to fall
through an opening this small, you have to be trying very deliberetly.

    Height Crouched 37 Units
Again, This is the minimum inside distance between the floor and
ceiling that he can crouch and walk through.

    Jump 45 Units High
This is the maximum height you can jump Running or Standing.

    Ducking Jump 63 Units High
This is the maximum height you can jump Running or Standing using
    the Duck & Jump method.

    Jump 229 Units Long
This is the maximum distance you can jump. I only tested this
running and this is one of the most objectible measurements since it
really depends if I jumped at the very edge of the opening.

    Ducking Jump 247 Units Long
This is the maximum distance you can jump using the Duck & Jump
method. I only tested this running and this again is one of the most
objectible measurements since it really depends if I jumped at the
    very edge of the opening.

    Step 18 Units Max
This is the maximum Step Height before you must jump.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

mmmmm, most likely these still apply,  they are just general HL stats.

Marines are slower then HL multiplayer, so those jumping figures are probably wrong.

mm, thats true, depends on their weaponry (but who puts jumping puzzles in ns maps anyway?)
