Nade Spamming

THE way to extend the end game
I've commed a few games and when the s**t hits the fan and your defending but teched, i usually try to give some one a grenade laucher to hold the base. However hardly anyone seems to know what I mean.

I know many people on this forum will know but heres how it goes. Put a continual steady stream of nades into ALL base entrances. About 1 nade every 1-2 seconds.
THATS IT, everything but onoii will think seriously before going through that.

Its important to keep it up stay alive and don't concentrate on skulks that hopefully your teammates will deal with.

Another tip if the armoury is in a spot that you can shoot all the entrances from then just stand on/by it and don't reload just use it (its quicker).

If you can do this well your comm will *love* you he'll be able to concentrate on other things and its relatively cheap.

Thats all really....

Yeah, ive done it also, but if you get pinned dont like that it often means you re just delaying your own death Maybe some Marines could go kill all hives with jetpack and stealth but in publics this is done only by 1 single Marine

Yeah thats the idea only a few people are required to hold the base allowing the comm and other marines to acheive something.

This doesn't work if you don't have a hive as your end base. A couple of Onos would just own you regardless. It's an excellent idea if you do have a hive as your base. Just remember that you are still trying to win, so get out of the base and siege a hive if you can.

Really, it won't work at all. But people think it will work so they won't bother trying to get through. To actually blockade a single entrance would take at least 3 grenade launchers, anything less than that is only enough to scratch the Fade as he blinks through. Good psychology tactic though.

Sure, it won't actually kill them - so what if they don't know that? Supressive fire with GLs works so long as the enemy doesn't know how to blink.

I've done this myself as comm and let me tell you it's a good thing. Here's the situation

We've got full tech, we hold Subspace and the original base. The aliens are ignoring the main base for now but hitting subspace hard. I have a decent team, maybe 1/2 of them are clan players, the other half is pretty much useless. So what I do is drop a heavy armor, and a grenade launcher (all the res I had) on one of the good players and tell him to get to subspace and spam the hell out of the entrance (There was an armory) Which he did. Soon I saved up enough and dropped another heavy suit and a welder for a second guy. I sent him into the hive to keep things welded up (Including the grenade launcher). Few minutes later I recalled him to base and outfitted an HMG and sent him back to the hive. By this time my heavies aren't just holding the fades off but they're chasing them down and mulching them. Finally I get a third player in heavy hmg and welder. Now I tell them to move out. And move out they did. This 3 man squad was doing awesome, slowly pushing thier way towards the hive, and nothing could stop them. We'd have gone on to won except one very skilled lerk managed to take them all out o_O I have no idea how he did it but all 3 of them got bitten to death in a few seconds. I think they had been weakened from some acid rocket splash and hadn't managed to get out thier welders yet.

1.04's increased grenade launcher damage and decreased umbra effectiveness should make this more and more a viable tactic, using grenade to hold off the enemy while you suit up a task force.

For blinking thru the spam, yes it is possible but as you say there is the psycological effect aswell as lerks probably wont come so your teammates guns work

Also blink is a bit unreliable, as for onii coming thru, yeah they will but you could maybe take 1 onus rush and the purpose is just to but more time. 9/10 times its just postponing the inevitable, but it could work, as they say "desprate times calls for desperate measures"

I think instead of putting 1 gren in each hallway wont do much as a fade can survive 1.
I try to force them back as far as i can and destroy there defence and Off chambers. Easy said than done though, also trying to retieve your gun back can be fun. not.

ummmm no I played a few games where mot marines had a GL and 2 onoses came in ... map eclipse ... bam 20 nades @ their feet ... and ... marines:2 - onoses:1

WOW and the funny thing is we kept spamming and advancing till WE GOT A HIVE and then got HA THEN ANOTHER HIVE and they quit ... WOW

a few more kills with Xeno but the dead marines just got their GL back and ...
this happend on 3 games - with good alien players

no1 had HMG and anything, almost every1 HAD GL

now I like to loose as marine and then get to nadespam and then win

I've done this before, and I've found it works particulary well on ns_caged (generator, ventilation, sewer). If the armory is placed in the right position (to the back of the base, on the side by the comm chair), then you can shoot grenades down both sides of the hallway. To the right is a clear shot, and you can shoot to the left by bouncing the nades off of the wall on the right side of the entrance. Shoot two nades at a time, then just poke your mouse down to refill. By doing this, you will never actually reload (by going through the reload animation), you only have to move your mouse a very small amount, thus creating an almost constant stream of nades with only one nade launcher. If you do it right and fast enough, you'll be hearing two explosions per second each way. Holds the aliens at bay pretty well until the entire team is at your door as either onos or fade.

Personally, I think the armory will stop filling up the weapon directly - avoiding the reload for GL's is what makes the GL spam possible. Now that 1.04 increases damage by 50% (130 vs 90 damage with upgrade lvl 3), the GL spamming will be just too easy a tactic otherwise.

Oh, and to handle friendly-fire, the grenades should have safety mechanisms so they don't explode if a marine is too close to them.

Update: I was right ... 1.04d has stopped reloading your gun for you.

No more cheap GL spamming. Now you have to reload it - slowly. Takes about 4 times as many GL's to keep the same amount of grenades in the air now.

Get3 jets and a GL...3 jets go hive hunting and the rest defend...

You might actually win from time to time since the aliens arnt ready for it

HMGs can actually take hives down faster. Get four clips of HMG into a hive, and it is down. GL takes years to reload, and a long time to fire.

I dunno what use this strat is because you cant win with it, only delay yer loss.

Sometimes a comm can have a plan in motion that just needs a little more time to succeed, such as setting up a seige outside a hive. The extra minutes this buys you can win you the game.

The reason this is so useful is that if marines survive long enough with their base intact they will win. As long as they retain any tech and take a hive they should win.
