In pub servers i can normally tell in the first 5 minutes whether we r going to win or not.
Straight up if the teams starts talking about whos rushing who guarding and u will be on your way to victory.
I normally scan the hives straight away and then tell evryone whats going on so if they want to kill the hive straight away they can,[if there good enough]
if not i would advise them to a safe hive.
No communication normally ends up with rambo's who get no where.

However, voice comm isn't for chat. If you're talking with your friends, get on the phone/IRC/ICQ. There's been countless times where I've missed something important (either footsteps/building sounds or a voice comm that was warning about something) because two friends keep talking and talking and talking.

Yer i hate that as well.
What i meant to say was u need to discuss what your doing where your going straight away. Otherwise peple wander off and eventually get taken .
Need to rally everyone.

Whenever something is plugged into my microphone slot, I get some hellishly annoying buzzage from the speakers/headphones... So I can't!

This is probably the first game that I have used voice chat with... its absolutely essential.

Yeah... chatter is a big problem but a little light-hearted humor never hurt anyone... *grins guiltily*

Yes I hate when ppl are telleing their lifestories on the MIC, I kept typing that they cant use the MIC for that purpose and especially when you cant mute...

mm....i had my mic gagged by a server admin // due to screaming my head off in the mic as four onos came through the doors //
and it hasnt worked since...how am i gonna fix this?

I use it extensively. The only problem is when you get some 10-14 year old who hasn't "quite grown up yet" and you sit there cradling your hurting ears from what the kid said... or the newbs enter and feel that Voice Comm is the best way to ask for a Shotgun!

My microphone doesn't work very well for me, and I realize that those that do use voice-comm get listened too. Voice-comm users sometimes ONLY listen to other voice-comm users and that's really bad.

I'll type "Guys, they're about to build a siege near our hive, we better stop it." No feedback, voice-comm users completely ignore my text messages.
"HIVE IS UNDER ATTACK"
Random voice comm user:"Oh my god, get to the hive, get to the hive!!"

Only till the hive is actually attacked do any voice-comm users respond, even commanders only listen to voice comm users only.

So I have to disagree, voice-comm is only essential if everyone else is using it, because otherwise you'll get ignored.

Voice-comm rules. Unfortunately, I.. and possibly others in my situation.. can't use it. Why?

Cable-return modems. If you haven't heard of one of these, count yourself lucky. If you have, you know my pain. Basically, it is a cable modem with the upstream over a phone line and the downstream through cable. Downloads are screaming (well, as fast as cable can provide at least), but uploading is at 33.6 or similar speeds. Also, simultaneous upload/download can screw with the connection further, making one or both streams suffer.

My pings in NS are 130 to 150, usually, and the game is quite playable. I stick to fast servers with 23 players at the most and get good results. I don't lag unless the whole server is lagging. However, when I use the voice comm to transmit .. well, my voice.. it totally destroys my connection and I get booted off the server. So.. I'm forced to live a life without voice comm, which is perhaps the most handy tool in NS and online gaming in general. :/

The admin proboably disabled voice chat on your computer.

Make sure everything is enabled:
voice_enable "1"
voice_modenable "1"

There might be some other tricks an admin can use to stop your voicechat, but I don't know of any.

i use both text & voice to get points across....

alos there is the mic lag problem, some people will hear you clear as a bell while others won't be able to...

Voice_loopback 1 is so u can hear yourself through the mic.
I dont use this as it puts me off, dont need to hear myself either .

Maybe he unbound it through client exec commands. Go to control options and put your controls back to default, then assign a key to voice com see if that works

vioce comm is absolutely awesome for a commander. try typing out 7 different commands in 20 seconds to 5 different people all while trying to med spam your HMGer. It's not fun. Good thing i got a headset!!

Voice com rules. When I'm playing I occassionally miss typed out things because I'm so busy watching the corners for skulks or jetpacking marines I don't always notice text messages. With voice com, though, it's so much easier to know what's going on. Plus, it's a heck of a lot quicker than typing.
